And isn't there a TV programme called National Treasures? Pretty sure I saw that advertised this evening!

As long as Prince doesn't release a Best Of compilation they might have a chance!

Have no idea what the programme is about but that would be ace if that happened!

I think a number one is unrealistic. Top 5 yeah, but I can't see a number one unless they absolutely RAPE the world with promo, and even if they did I can't see that much mainstream media responding.

How hard would I laugh if NT would top PFAYM's positions! One more last shot for mass communication, innit?

Amazon is saying the supplier has informed them that the date has been pushed back to October 31 (as HMV said all along, in fairness).

In other words, chart success becomes less and less of a talking point. As JDB will tell you at the end of many a gig, Christmas is practically over by that point.

Inspired by another thread (Where can I get ... CD2?) I was just thinking a good selling point for the National Treasures super deluxe shoebox cassette vhs edition or whatever they call it with all the singles individually would be to have all the cassette, CD1, CD2 and vinyls (and relevant B-sides) on one CD each for the first time, along with Audio CD versions of the DVD singles from around Lifeblood/FD. I mean the only reason to have CD1 and CD2s etc in the first place was to artificially increase sales for a higher chart place and make a bit more money, and both of those wouldn't matter with this(!)

I doubt they'll bother though, sadly.

Having said that, I'm not so negative about this as most of you, for a band this old to only have one Greatest Hits and one singles collection is hardly over the top. I always find it strange when some pop act has had two albums and then release a best of...

Speaking of which, I think it's worth underlining there is a subtle difference between those three paradigms; Greatest Hits, Singles Collection and Best Of. I suspect we'll see the latter in a few years or so. I think these kind of compilations are things that will sell at a consistently decent, moderate rate once the initial release is over, possibly more so than a standard album, and I'm certainly not expecting National Treasures to top the charts or anything. Top Ten for a week would be fine.

Aye, I predict a Queen-style 'Best Of' in 10 years or when the band break up, featuring album tracks and the odd b-side.

Sony are really missing a trick in not tying No Manifesto to this in some way.
