But, you go to gigs, and there they are. They've never used a forum in their lives. It's an amazing thing to behold.
I'm a fan of lots of things that I'd never bother joining a forum for. I guess I'm still on here as often as I am because I'm waiting for that happy ending where I can say, 'well, that didn't sound all that bad, actually'.

Amen to that, this is the only forum I'm a member of and I don't even rate the band.

You can pre-order it on Play.com for 14/15 quid.

You don't rate the band AT THE MOMENT. But you did once and you might do again!

Exactly.

The price of the PFAYM box set was an absolute joke - there's no justification for how much they charged for something so pitiful - but the prospect of 42 discs isn't going to be cheap especially if these discs encompass ALL of their material since their inception. Let's be a little realistic here. You're not going to get a groups entire recorded career for 50 bucks.

Thanks DK for providing some cost comparisons with other bands. Yes, some of those bands are far more notable, which shows just how much more music fans have to pay for pretty much their entire body of work ie; The Smiths. Even The Beatles box set a few years back was $300 CAN and that didn't even include all their studio albums.

You're not going to get it for 180 quid either. This is just their singles and B-sides, leaving the larger majority of their album tracks out of this set.

Well, that was the kick up the arse I needed to finally start posting after registering probably 6 months ago and lurking for even longer. I'd guess there are quite a few others who check the forum regularly but never feel the need to sign up/post. You can usually get most (all?) the info you need just from reading the threads in here.

If this is aimed at anyone in particular (and I'm not entirely sure it is if Sean has said in the past that stuff like this will be released every 10yrs) I'm guessing it's new, or very casual, listeners and collectors. And despite the clamour over the price of the box set I'd be willing the bet there's at least one person out there who'd fork out the full £181 Amazon's currently asking. That said, I imagine the price is going to drop even before release (see the price of Nicky's polaroid book, £10 off already, I think). As long as the standard version brings in new fans the only problem I'll have with this release will be if the box set turns into another Postcards shoebox fiasco.

What is the going rate for Shoebox now? Was £110 when it first came out on the official site wasn't it? £80 on Play now, can anyone beat that? (or £61.26 here, new, from one of the marketplace sellers)

Limited Edition don't you know

Well, I'm betting that it won't be their entire recorded career and this is going for 295 US dollars...not 50 bucks..!

Exactly.

I suppose they can always say that no one's being forced to buy this - there is the £10/£15 package for sane people. Supply and demand therefore would dictate that the boxset would be a more limited run with a price to match. For many it may be a cheaper and more straightforward way to get all the singles in good condition, and on that basis it seems just about reasonable.

True, but that means they can charge what they like - 300, 400, 500?...and they can, of course...but given they know that their hardcore fan base is the type to put fandom before reason/money, it does seem to me like exploitation.

it's always nice to spend some money on the manics :-)

and it's much healthier than drinking, smoking and taking drugs... I know a couple who spend 180 quid on cigarettes EACH month....

come on it's going to be a nice thingy I'm sure

I dunno, I reckon £180 would buy you a decent night out.
