Yeah, only thing is Sandy wasn't a real person.

There are loads of songs that cover darker subject matter but are musically upbeat. One that stands out to me is The Clock Was Tickin' by Brandon Flowers. He wrote it about his mother who died of brain cancer, but musically speaking it's a jaunty pop-country little number.

That was his Mother. Who the hell is Richard Edwards to the band these days?

Obviously someone significant enough to write a song about (assuming this is actually about Richey...whilst it seems on the face of it quite obvious it is about him, we don't have any official word on it from the band as of yet). It's not like you can put a time limit on grief.

No, you can't put time on grief, but you can package it up as a myth and put a price on it.

Or it's just another in a long line of nods to him to show he's not forgotten...depends how cynically you want to view it I suppose.

Or depends if anyone ever wants to question the Manics streamlined version of events and their 'touching' tributes.

Wow. Much cynic.

The band write about what it important to them, or that they find interesting, or means something special. Richey is all that to them and more. Both James and Nick have written lyrics about Richey (The Wrong Beginning & As Holy As The Soil respectively) and he'll always be a big part of the history of the band. Why shouldn't they write about him or their relationship with him / his memory?

The band aren't the ones that mythologise Richey, they knew him, warts and all, as a friend, a brother and a son.

Well, I certainly didn't expect all of this from yesterday morning onwards, fair to say I'm still in quite a world of confusion!

Anyway, I like the song a fair degree although from what I've seen this one has had the most mixed reaction out of the 4 so far.

Streamlined? Like your achingly boring attention seeking?
