I seem to be having a bit of a Condemned to Rock and Roll moment with Mausoleum since hearing it in Manchester. Can't stop playing it

'Archives of Pain' - Richey's typed lyrics have 'Blanche and Pickles, Amin, Manic Street Preachers' as the last line of the second chorus. Since this is what is sung I wonder if this line not being printed correctly in the original release was one of the errors that annoyed him. Also, as was suspected, James IS singing 'Hussain' and this was altered to 'who's saying' in the lyric sheet. It must have been spotted after recording that the correct form of address should have been 'Saddam'. 'Revol' - there's some alternate first draft lyrics. 'Mr Lenin - Descent of Arousal'. The chorus might have included 'Anschluss', 'Via Cessionis', 'Festung Europa' and 'Achtung'. The aforementioned 'February' schedule dates in Nicky's handwriting would definitely be for 1995. And yes, a bit eerie to see them in the same way that unperformed Nirvana show listings are. There's a mock-up of the cover art which suggests a different running order might have been considered: 1. Yes 2. The Intense Humming of Evil 3. Walking Abortions 4. She is Suffering 5. 4st 7lb 6. Die in the Summertime 7. Mausoleum 8. If White America 9. PCP 10. Revol 11. Faster 12. Archives of Pain 13. This is Yesterday |

This is the second version I've seen of an alternate tracklisting (from the band's ideas, not a fan's playlist or anything). There was another that began with Of Walking Abortion and ended with Revol.

It's funny cos I could never ever imagine the album with a different tracklisting.

So did I. Some things sound right enough not to bother checking.

From what I remember, the music is from 1995 and James's vocal tracks are from 2003. James stopped used flange and fuzz after the THB era so it kinda makes sense in my head. Pretty much like No Surface All Feeling....

Don't think we've ever managed to reach a consensus. I thought the whole thing was recorded and shelved in 1995, but who knows. Might ask one of them next time I meet them.

The music was recorded in 1995, the vocals were laid down between 2002-3 in the same session as the needless re-recording of "Take The Skinheads Bowling".

Pretty sure I read it in an interview with James at the time so I don't think it was pure conjecture. Plus if you listen to the verse, it's got that same slightly nasal sound of Lifeblood.
