So Where Is The New Album?!

I totally understand they need to take time. I remember there was an interview about a year ago where Nicky said they can't afford to ruin the run they're on after Rewind and Futurology, which he thought was considered a "late career masterpiece" -- I agree. And I also agree that they can't afford to ruin it. Them being a good band right now, musician whose album I'm looking forward to... is a miracle. A miracle that seems... fragile. Especially in the light of those well calculated but retrograde anniversary shows.

Still I don't think any band has been this good on their 32nd year of activity.

And I think the long wait album is something they've never done before, so cool. But... how long will the wait be?

I gather -- from the same interview, which I can't find -- that they scrapped the knee jerk reaction they had to Rewind / Futurology: to rev up the guitarrrrr. A stupid idea that was, I'm glad. No one wants Satt pt 3; Postcards pt 2.

Still, it's getting awfully long that wait. Most days I can't believe they'll make another good one. Then I put on Futurology and I'm reminded of The View From Stow Hill* being one of the greatest tracks of this decade.

Anyway, discuss! Inform each other! Next LP talk!

*Yes, TVFSH, even the tweet and facebook part, especially that! They turned out to be right about the internet, didn't they? It's mostly a regressive shithole divided between dystopian megacorps by now.

I dunno, Wire are still going strong at 40. And Tangerine Dream at 50 (although they had a 15 year fallow patch, so...)
But yes, as I think I said in another thread about the next album, the fact that they're even still going and putting albums out more than seven or eight years apart at this point is something we should be glad about.

As long as they've got their best melodic hats on (i.e. throwing in some gorgeous bittersweet tunes between the anthems) and show some restraint and a touch of adventure in the arrangements, my hopes are still high.

Nicky said they're aiming for the end of the year in an interview to promote the documentary on Saturday.

Ooh! That sounds sweet (it also sounds like it's gonna be out March 2018)

Twelve studio albums in 22 years 4 months, so a new one every 1 year 10 months on average.

Futurology was released on 7 July 2014 so the subsequent album should have been released sometime in May 2016...

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason was Pink Floyd's 13th album. Ozzy had well been kicked out of Black Sabbath by their 13th.
And as we all know The Beatles fucked off before they got to 13.

A year goes fast. Good things take time liked aged cheese, whiskey and wine. I'm in no rush as I would rather wait for a great and long album than a short album. It might be the last album. Or there might be enough left in the tank for even another album after that. The bad lost their studio which would have eaten into demo time. They have families to look after. I'll let them decide when it's time for the album to be released. Forcing a release doesn't make it feel like art. Just a product like the latest release new of chocolate biscuits or perfume.

It's a converted house surrounded by high walls and security fences just off a main road. It's not particulary picturesque or mystical in anyway. I walk passed the area every day. There is a private entrance for vehicles to the rear (through a secured fence). It's a large property though and the nearest neighbours had recieved notices of possible "Noise Levels" at the beginning of the conversion.

Having taken so long, hopefully they've written/recorded enough material for 2 albums to come out in quick succession like last time.
