One last "one last shot at mass communication", this time 4REALsies?

I'm afraid the Manics have contracted the U2 syndrome, i.e. they're desperate to remain relevant but somehow keep missing the (sic!) zeitgeist.

I sincerely hope the album has as little to do with the lead single as Jackie Collins had with JFPL (or as Show Me the Wonder w/ RTF). Do we really need SATT part 4???

I like it. It’s in a similar vein to the sound of Futurology (and the very last few notes of the song remind me of Australia too). Interested to hear what the rest of the album sounds like now.

And welcome back FD!

Wasn't really sure what to expect given it's the longest gap they've had between albums, they've spent the last three tours on a nostalgia trip and James has just done a horror soundtrack.. I like it enough, not blown away or owt. Probably doesn't make that much sense but even though I wasn't sure what to expect, I'm not all that surprised either and that's my biggest disappointment with it.

While it's nice to have new material chucked at us so suddenly, just a shame it's not looking like I'll have a nice shiny 7" or whatever to add to me collection.

Expected more naysayers to be honest. Horribly overly polished nothing of a song. Listened a few times and nothing stuck in my head at all. Very easily my least favourite lead single by them.

Would you adam and eve it, we get brand new stuff and the forum keels over. But when there’s a lot more activity on social media does it even matter anyway? For me it does but then i’m an outlier i guess

This new single: it’s alright, it’s got great energy, i like it when James soars into the “international blue” bit with the riff. Bit manics paint by numbers though isn’t it? You know where it’s going, there’s no surprises and you can already see the finished product from about 30 seconds in.

and high and very far away he saw the spiral arms of military systems, forever beyond his reach.
And somewhere he was laughing, in a white-painted loft, distant fingers caressing the deck, tears of release streaking his face.

It's a decent tune. The part I like most is the bit just before the solo where it goes a bit EMG B-side-ish (2:23 onwards.) The performance carries a bunch of energy which also makes for a catchy, upbeat feel. I guess the interesting thing will be finding out if it's an outlier or a taste of things to come.

Sort of feels like an "oh lets just play some songs" feel which reminds me of the straightforward direction REM took on their last couple of albums.

I do love it, but the bit where James sings International Blue at high pitch reminds me of this:

https://youtu.be/jWigVVh7OXM?t=45 (listen for the last bit!)

Of course, I find that more endearing than bad.

I would love to hear it, but as a US Manics fan, all I get is...."not available in your country". Oh well torrents it is.

Yeah, agreeing with the mediocre reviews. I like it, but it's not amazing, not that memorable, not had it on constant rotation. Looking forward to the album though.
