I'm still betting it's atonal musical insanity. Studies In Paralysis. If ever the Manics did something that was just one chord. I think Studies In Paralysis sounds more likely to be that.
I'm looking forward to hearing it and imaging the band going "We can't fucking release this to the public! Stick that Wattsville one instead!".

Last weekend of August this thread will probably never be off the handle.

Can confirm that next month's Mojo give it 4 stars but it's the world's smallest review and doesn't mention anything other than the fact it's been remixed. It reads as though they haven't heard it to be honest (either that or they were distinctly uninterested).

I want gigs seriously.

And some studio videos like they did for TUVL and Jimbo did for Even in Exile.

Can you give us any info on Studies in Paralysis? How is the remix sounding?

Were there any reissues that they didn’t do gigs for? Or at least they didn’t have a tour at the same time even if it wasn’t a specific reissue tour? Maybe GT in 2012? Did they do anything for SATT in 2017?

There weren't any specific gigs for SATT I believe, although the festival dates they did that year had a few songs from the album played aside from YLAINE.

I don't think they did anything live for the GATS reissue although Covid played a part in that. I'm pretty sure they advertised the Halifax Piece Hall gig originally claiming they'd been rehearsing Drug Drug Druggy.

Endlessly trapped in an alien world... That gives everything four stars out of five!

Short 8/10 review in the latest Uncut.

Quote:
The Manics responded to mainstream success with the alienating Know Your Enemy, launched with a Havana gig in front of Fidel Castro. A scrambled curate's egg, the record's 16 tracks were confused and hard to love: now they're releasing it as Nicky Wire intended, lightly remixed and split into two more cohesive albums. Door to the River is quieter, sadder, enhanced with a strings-less version of the title track (originally released on 2002's Forever Delayed comp), the previously unreleased "Rosebud" and choice B-sides. The noisier Solidarity disc is the surprising highlight, though, raging and ridiculous in equal measure, and now including standalone No. 1 "The Masses Against the Classes". In this new setting, even "Intravenous Agnostic" and "The Convalescent", hardly highlights of the original, shine like Castro's belt buckle.

Surely Masses being on the album wasn’t anyone’s master plan… or was it?

Are people really bothered by the Brian Warner lyric? I don't see how it relates to accusations charged against him. Am I missing something?

Don't remember being particularly upset about "I laughed when Lennon got shot" was included in the GT 20th edition or Archives of Pain remaining on the Holy Bible.

I think there's just a general anticipation of potential issues rising from referencing unsavoury individuals following examples of such actions in recent years (one that springs to mind is scrubbing Rolf Harris off the few Kate Bush albums he was on, in credit if not in performance), rather than the removal of the line actually being requested or desired.

I personally see it as a non-issue given it's a non sequitur line on a deep cut from well beyond the time of the allegations and hardly an endorsement of his actions to begin with; and realistically speaking I don't think a reissue of an unfavoured album by a band with vaning public presence is ever going to be deeply examined like that to begin with so I don't think a public outcry is to be expected.

Outrage and disappointment of the discovery of severe abuses lie on a continuum. There will be those who dismiss these, potentially gaslighting others who consider these events to be evil, and then there will be others who raise the uncomfortable sense that a thoroughly disgusting abuser is name-checked.

Personally I try to avoid settling-myself-down towards the gaslighting end of the spectrum but that's just me.

Interesting how this question itself was raised, ho hum.

p.s. the lyric you quote has been discussed at great length in this regard. Shame you don't recall this as your entire argument appears to be predicated upon this never happening
