Hey kids, does anyone remember Nicky referring to their 1999 double BRIT Awards win in retrospect as "a pretty hollow night" and where the quote appears? I have it as loose change rattling around my memory bank. Cheers!

Googled it. "Did you mean 'Nicky Wire a pretty hollow Knight'?" No... There we go. Exact result. Hate being second guessed by Google. I try not to think about it. Only the whistling in my ears openly mocks |

I can't find You're Tender and You're Tired (was it broadcast on the BBC?) but here's the final half dozen or so songs. I can kind of see what Nicky is getting at, especially in the slower songs. From memory there was a bit of criticism that they were a bit over rehearsed and conservative in the song selection around that time, although I think that's true of many bands as they establish themselves as arena sized festival headliners.

Along the same lines.. just over 30 years now since I bought my first Manics record. From Despair To Where on 12" at a record fair just before I left University. Really surprised my mates as I'd been massively into techno and stuff like that til then. The start of some big changes in musical tastes.
But yes, 30 years....I feel really old now. |

Can't believe nobody realised that yesterday was the 25th anniversary of "Bobby Gould Must Go"!
(Bizarrely my mum met Bobby about a decade ago and said he was a lovely bloke). |

Yesterday was the quarter century anniversary of my first proper Manics gig (I'd seen them previously supporting Oasis, but that's not really the same.
Still ranks as one of my favourite gigs (Manics or otherwise). https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/manic...-2bd7504a.html |
