Well I sort of did - not royal mail but the carrier that brought it - DHL - I'm just looking at the invoice I got - its rubbish! £10 pound of it is tax - that I can live with. But the other £10 is an "Administration Fee". Bollocks!!!!

Anyway I still await my HMV delivery of the Everything Live DVD. Has anyone else got it yet? Has anyone else ordered it for that matter?

my order seems to be holed up in customs in San Francisco (I'm in L.A.) so it should be here either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Sort of hoping buying off ebay will help with customs, but probably not....

I don't know whether there's any point buying the JFPL deluxe, it doesn't look any different.

From the HM Revenue and Customs website http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...08654#P36_6903

I have been charged VAT and duty for goods bought over the Internet, why is this?

All goods imported into the UK from countries outside the European Union are subject to import duty and VAT at the rates applicable. However, import VAT is not payable on commercial consignments if the total value of the goods in the consignment does not exceed £18. This limit is raised to £36 for personal gifts between private individuals. If this tax was not applied, there would clearly be an unfair advantage to foreign businesses over UK trade.

With effect from 1 December 2008, customs duty will not be applied on goods with a value less than £105.

So you're not paying customs duty but Import VAT and as it's for personal use this only applies if the goods are greater than £36.00

However since the CDs are 2700yen this equates to £17.47 (as per www.xe.com today) and the Everything Live DVD is 2800yen = £18.11

So 1 item would be well within the £36.00 goods threshold but 2 items could take you above the £36.00

With regards to ebay it depends on the value of goods given by the seller on the customs form. So if they value them at below £36.00 it would go through customs.

To clarify, this is only the case if they marked the package 'gift' on the declaration form. Otherwise it's the £18 limit you should be looking out for. Buying from an e-bay seller does not make it a gift.

Everything Live DVD received!
Great package, the quality is ok, but no different to VHS, which is what we could have expected. Also is is NTSC, no PAL, therefore I can only watch it om my pc....for now, I'll convert it to PAL anyway.

Nice one - I'm still waiting.

What are the menus like? Is it just a "play all" and "track selection" or are there extras.

Bit worried now about the compatibility issues you mention. I assumed it would work just like any other DVD as UK/most of Europe is region 2 like Japan??????

Got my DVD already! Really, it's NTSC? Good for me in an NTSC country. I haven't checked it out yet. I just admired its shininess.

Yeah, it's just a simple menu, no extra's, "play all" or "song selection".
The NTSC standard makes it impossible to watch the dvd on a european TV, although nowadays more and more tv's support PAL and NTSC. If your TV and/or DVD player doesn't accept this format copy the disc with i.e. dvd shrink, don't change anything, then with nero make your own new PAL copy. It worked for me! Also I must say that the picture quality is improved watching it on tv instead of on a pc, so this dvd is a great copy to own and the VHS is just a bookshelf decoration now.

Gp
