On my 7th listen now and it's grown on me, I've been humming the chorus. I agree about the Nicky moment being very like YLAINE.
It's not an amazing song but if heard enough on radio and music channels and then played live with passion then I reckon crowds will dig it....even though the band aren't playing any music festivals this summer....hmmmm. Oh well, so much for mass communication

It's a great album opener but not a great first single. I'm not blown away, mainly because the chorus is quite repetitive and for me the whole thing is a bit too lush and sugary-sweet.

I'd say a 6 or 7. It's not a minus number. But then this is me! I hope you don't let the people who didn't like it get to you. I hope you can have a fair assessment of the song yourself in good time.

EDIT: Actually no, I think a bit higher than that. About an 8. I view YLAINE as 8 as well.

And this is coming from the man who absolutely hated JFPL on first listen

And I'd give it a 6. Like I said before, it's good but not great. Enjoyable listen at the most.

It's been an interesting role reversal today! I thought this song would have got a better response from some who hate it?

I could never hate this song. It's catchy, it's fun and has some epic strings like EMG era songs. But it doesn't blow me away. And that's alright, I hardly expected to be. JFPL was a masterpiece in my opinion, so I knew whatever came next (especially a more commerical album) would not rival that for me. But as a simple rock song it's good. It's probably going to prove to be a very cool live number. It certainly has the commerical appeal that the band have been aiming for this time - I can see this bothering the charts.

It's not shite, it's not embarassing and it's not a disappointment. So I'm grateful for that. But it could've been much better. I'll agree with Dancing Kirby (shock! horror!) that a middle 8th would've boosted this song ten fold, but as it stands it's an enjoyable rock song. I predict more interesting things from the actual album.

Reminds me of:

The late 90s (possibly because Chris Evans introduced it)
My last doomed relationship
Strangely, "Wake Up Its a Beautiful Morning" by the Boo Radleys (Maybe again because it was morning and the sun was shining when I first heard it!)

Overall, I really like it. Manic Pop at its best.

Lightweight Radio 2 fodder.

Cheesy lyrics.

Sounds like a G D A chorus though I might be mistaken.

Oasis solo.

Underwhelming.

I hope the album version is a bit longer than the single version.

I haven't heard it myself yet.
I've noticed a lot of dissapointment spreading throughout this Thread though.
I'd like to know what people were expecting before hearing it this morning.

It's ok. That's the most excitement I can muster at the minute. I knew it would never be as great as anything of JFPL, but...I think it will grow on me. Well I hope.

The first 10 seconds are like YES YES YES IT GONNA BE AMAZING,

Then it like is this the new GMTV theme tune ?

But i would agree with that it can be a decent album opener, because it makes everything that comes after it sound great.
