Between this and The Descent, I'm glad I don't hear any Oasis in this album. Never had time for that band at all, and truth be told, I'd struggle to listen to any Oasis-esque Manics track objectively.

i really like this. perhaps the only one on the album i can say that for, but still. lyrics are certainly the best/least horrible on the album; i like the 'why colonise the moon?/when every different kind of desperation exists in every single home' a fair bit.

Ok so I thought this wasn't very good on first listen. I admit I was wrong-today it just clicked and it is FUCKING AMAZING. Well maybe. I now love three songs. Things are improving! Come October we could be in double figures...

I think from Auto-Intoxication through to All We Make Is Entertainment is a flawless run of songs. Great tunes, great dynamics between them.

I need to get over this vendetta I know, but I think I'll be slashing my wrists and necking a ten glass of vodka if they play that live. But the rest do flow quite nicely I'll admit.

I Think I've Found It is shite. I would love Hezelton Ave too if I could stop singing Lenny Kravitz over the top of it.

I know that song is pretty unpopular, but I love it and the afore-mentioned section of the album is just perfect to me. I'm stunned it seems to offend so many. Got stuck in my head straight away.

Ahhh another nicky demo that went through huge changes before the final version we hear on the album. I see some people have a vendetta against "I think I found it", well I have one against Nicky's music and vocals. His demos are crap. His vocals are beyond shocking. How they ever take his demos and make them in to anything is beyond me.

Piano has been added, strings have been added, guitars have been changed and added, the drum track has been changed. What do nicky's original composition consist of reallly? Monotonous 3 chord strumming at the same speed every time with equally monotonous and out of tune vocals, and in amongst all that is a melody and usually that's found in the slight variation on the monotonous vocals. It's then left to James and Sean and I'm sure (to an insignificant amount) Nicky to fill out the song.

How on earth can anyone listen to Nicky's songs; I really don't get it. The vocals are just plain hideous. At least his brother had the good sense not to even try to sing on his album.

Has Nicky ever had the nickname "mouth"? He should have, he likes using it, but talks a load of bull. If it wasn't for James I think I'd have lost interest in this band a long time ago... I've certainly lost interest in 90% of what nicky has to say and that includes his lyrics, most of which are silly at best.

What do I remember from this song and from "Some Kind Of Nothingness"? From this I remember piano and Jame's vocal. From SKON I remember James vocal, Ian's vocal, the guitar bits between verse and chorus etc, the strings and the choir.

Add strings to any song and it instantly becomes an epic masterpiece?

Well... platitudes and skon are nice and all, but PCFAYM, ABBFTS, AWMIE, ITIFI, HA float my boat much more. PCFAYM, ABBFTS, AWMIE have that kind of euphoria that got me in to the manics in the first place.

And while I'm moaning, and to go totally OT... why the heck did they include the Bag Lady on the 1CD version of JFPL but not on the 2CD deluxe edition? And then not make Bag Lady available through itunes/amazon/wherever? Ahhh money. Fair enough, but it's a bit much, especially when they're quite happy to write songs about the shitness of consumerism and about how they want to communicate with the masses. And they've continued this theme again by releasing 2 CDs plus a fookin 7" single and then making only bits of it available through Townsend... at least it can be got from itunes as well.

Then there's the super mega ninja deluxe version of PFAYM with a cassette and dvd. I'd like the DVD, however... to get everything you need the deluxe and the super deluxe. If super deluxe doesn't have everything in that the deluxe has then how can it be £90+.

DavidProut, 'Bag Lady' was available as a free download. You can probably still find it. I was thankful for it, as I got tired of FFing through 'William's Last Words'. Yes, it would have been great for it to turn up on iTunes or other music site.
