Yay! Not that Truth is very ELO-ish.

I didn't think it was ELO-ish.

It made a great title for a blog entry a week or so ago.

You're totally missing the point that I'm making there. I agree that there's nothing wrong with rocking out in your 40's! I'm not a million years away from that age myself. The point I was making is that they sounded old before their time on Truth.

I totally agree about the Manics generally sounding energetic, but if you think they sound energetic on Truth you must have very different ears to mine.

I love the Manics, I was just giving my personal opinion on that one album and my feelings about it then and now. That's allowed on here, right?

Yeah but Postcards has actually got a greater sense of urgency too.

I don't think Motorcycle Emptiness is dad rock at all - it's gorgeous. You're Tender and You're Tired on the other hand...

Of course you're entitled to your opinion but for me, just because an album has a more melancholic mood about it doesn't mean it's MOR.

Yes you are, and it was a good post, I didn't agree with some of it myself but you painted why you didn't find it to be good pretty damned well.

We just like a good old discussion on here, the Manics section can sometimes be a bit empty for proper musical talk at times so don't be offended by anyone disagreeing or anything.

Keep safe and keep posting, sire

Yes, and then you'll be criticised for them

You should probably put it in the Controversial Opinions bit!

I used to hate it in my teens, just seemed so bland and dull. But with time I've learned to appreciate the maturity and lushness to it. It is a glorious album on the whole, just a shame about SYMM.
It could do with a bit more variety and pace too. I live in a world where it starts with Prologue To History, ends with The Everlasting and has Montana/Autumn/78 in there somewhere.

I love melancholy and sensitivity in music...when it's done well. The Manics entire career is laced with beautiful melancholy and my favourite MSP tune of all time is La Tristesse Durera - it doesn't get much more melancholic than that: the lyrics ("life has been unfaithful, and it all promised so so much...") that pulsing bass-line, the initially tender (but not tired) guitar riff...and then all bursting into life and propelling into something even more driven, moving, rocking, brilliant and melancholic. Never fails to move me every time that I listen to it.

Thanks mate.

By the time that I got on here last night I'd guzzled multiple JD and cokes, so I'm fairly amazed that my replies were coherent at all!

Fair point. Perfect tune for if he fancies a little snooze in his favourite chair though
