I know Nicky despises the man, but he really could take some advice:

Quote:
Franz Ferdinand have insisted that they will not discuss their new album because they do not want to "spoil" the surprise for fans.

The 'Take Me Out' group are currently working on their new LP, but frontman Alex Kapranos admitted that he will not be discussing any new material after 'mouthing' off too much about their last album Tonight: Franz Ferdinand before its release.

"There's a couple of songs we're working on but we're still writing," Bang Showbiz quotes him as saying.

"It's too early to say what it's about and also, with our last record, I shot my mouth off a little bit too much and said too much about it before it came out, so I'm keeping my mouth closed this time and not spoiling the surprise. I think that spoils it, so it's best to stay quiet."

Despite being secretive about the new album, Kapranos hinted that the band may collaborate with Scottish singer Edwyn Collins.

He said: "I went round to Edwyn Collins's place and he's working on a record, it's very cool. We haven't decided if we'll record with him or not yet, but wait and see."

The last time I saw Nicky talking about Franz Ferdinand he was saying he liked them - what's changed since?

Nicky should tell everyone it's called '10 underwhelming rock rip-offs'. People might expect something a bit different then.

Perhaps '70 Songs Of Failure And Hatred' will in fact be the title of a forthcoming box set compilation of the band's post-90s output.

I'd take a regular, 12 track Nicky solo album any time over a new Manics album. Seriously. Nicky's writing on PFAYM was so much stronger than James' and Sean's.

yeah if they do go on a break I think Nicky should do a new solo album. It would be exactly the same as his first but more accessible

Nicky said they were tired from touring when I spoke to him the other night. I asked if there was a reason why no JFPL songs were in the Aussie sets, and he just did that huge grin of his and a laughingly said 'We couldn't be arsed!' - tired, long tour etc. Those boys need a break.

Though I think the song writing on PFAYM was great, especially obvious when you listen to the demo versions.

There are too many dull MOR melodies for me - for every Evil, Entertainment and Balconies, you have JTEOL, The Descent, Postcards - that's what's let the album down - especially in terms of sales, because the singles are pretty average so the floating voters aren't convinced.

I know this 70-songs-long album will never happen (never say never!), but at least it made me discover the 69 Love Songs album by The Magnetic Fields, which I'm listening to and loving at the moment.

Oooh both of those are two of my favorites. Glad you've found them, Chloe!
