Oh, and there's an e in unfortunately.
Oh do fuck off Exactly what grounds are there to be optimistic around this whole era? I'm getting fed up of happy clappy people who are deluded to think any of this can be deemed a success, It's been a shambles from the start. Choosing one of the weakest tracks on the album as your lead single, the song that's going to convince people to actually go out and get the album. An album they couldn't get to number 1 despite being up against Phil fucking Collins and some shit boyband who's albums had already been out a week and charted, then being desperate enough to reduce the price to nothing and practically beg people to buy it and still failing. Playing 5 gigs where only like 300 people can see them and making them 'competitions' and just generally shitting over the established fan base in search of new fans in some attempt at apparent 'mass communication'. The setlists have been dull as shit, despite apparently practicing 40 songs for the tour. What they neglected to say was that they were the songs they've been playing constantly for the last decade like the musical equivalent of someone wearing the same pants for a year, and ignoring half (some would say the better half) of the album. They over pushed themselves doing 30 odd gigs leading to James' laryngitis and pissing people off with the cancellations...it's been the biggest fan backlash to an album I've seen in my time as a fan, not even Know Your Enemy or Lifeblood got this reaction. They tried fair enough but now they just need to go off for a year or so and make an album of what THEY want to do, not whats going to be commercial and what the public want(ed...15 years ago). I still love them but this whole era has just been one dissapointment after another.

That's the biggest fucking paragraph I've seen in my life. And, nope, sorry but I'm not fucking off anywhere - I've long since had enough of seeing you miserable sods on here slagging off the band I love, and for the most inane reasons possible, rather than targeting the real (musical or otherwise) enemies that are out there.

If you've actually read anything I've posted and still think I'm a 'happy clappy' person then I've clearly not explained myself anything like clearly enough. But for any lover of the magnificence of a band that is Manic Street Preachers to be bitching and complaining about what they've released just a year after Journal for Plague Lovers - an album that couldn't have indulged, treated and delighted us hardcore fans more - is fucking pathetic.

If Postcards had been released in isolation it might have annoyed me too, but on the back of Journal I can't begrudge the Manics for releasing an album like it in any way, shape or form.

Now I'm off to bed with my headphones and some b-sides...

This is aaaaaall truth. I'm also tired of the PFAYM fans accusing those who dislike the album of blind cynicism when in fact the opposite is true. Those who hate PFAYM are not attempting attempting to undermine 'the magnificence' of the band, it's not true. You don't have to be a fan of EVERY album and decision they make to be a fan of the band.
It has nothing to do with them not making another JFPL, and has everything to do with the band's own desparation and admittance that they can only make two types of album, and diluted all that makes them great in a desparate attempt to seem popular, backing it up with a depressing and mind-numbing tour and dull MOR singles.

This will be a shame, I don't imagine there are too many bands if you look at chart stats that have had that many singles all in the top 40. Umbrealla got to #47 or something but it wasn't a proper single as such, but it still was in the top 75 for a few weeks!!
5,000 sales though of SKON. That's depressing. No more singles I don't think, it'll be pointless.

I see what you mean but by 'not fucking off anywhere' I meant in the bigger picture, not that I was planning on staying up all night to have a fevered debate on a forum...but I'm thinking you already realised that's what I meant really, you rascal

It's quite amusing as a lot of your complaints echo mine around the Truth era and are very similar, if not identical, to how I felt back then. Shame to hear you didn't enjoy the tour, though. Are you going to too many gigs perhaps? I really enjoy a Jaffa Cake but if I stuffed in 95 of them in one go I'd probably start to feel a tad sick.

Word. I don't dislike PFAYM, but they need to realise they are a cult band at this stage in the game. Unless they hook up with Red One or Ryan Tedder they ain't hitting the heights of commercial viability they crave, so why strive for it? JFPL proved they had the creativity to make an amazing album again, so why not just throw off the constraints of the pressures of success and just make music.
