After last night I have to say my old opinion of 'these may sound decent with less/no strings' seemed spot on. It's Not War sounded good, SKON sounded decent too (no crappy guitar in the second verse helped), Golden Platitudes sounded decent for what it is as well (a glorified pre-chorus).
Yep, if the Manics played all of the album tracks at some stage I would have liked to have heard a LIVE version of the Postcards album on here.

Gutless Wonder has been writing reviews:
http://thetyee.ca/ArtsAndCulture/201...reetPreachers/ Quite a review; I like the album but didn't read that much into it beside Nicky wanting to mastacommunicate. |

Best part of that review: 'Manics are full of real heart'. That's why I like them so.
Though sometimes, they are a bit too earnest. |

I've been listening to this to and from work a lot lately and whilst it's still not a great album, I have taken a shine to more songs.
It's Not War - overproduced but it's alright due to knowing how great it sounded live - 6/10 Some Kind of Nothingness - overproduced and pointless guitar wank in the second verse, also Ian is a bit shit in it, but live wise made me appreciate it more - 7/10 The Descent - I love this, I wish they made it acapella with strings though. The chorus which I hated originally is absolutely superb - 7/10 Golden Platitudes - still one big pre-chorus but I accept that now, it's not a single at all but it's bloody nice - 8/10 I already loved Hazelton Avenue, Don't Be Evil, Future Has Been Here Forever, I Think I Found It, so now I rate this album as 7/10. Its a grower and would have been better as a 3 piece album without any strings/choirs.

It makes the new year start off rather auspiciously.
