Oh no!

5 James solo albums in a row would be far better!

I still think it's going to be extremely unlikely we'll ever see another James solo album until the day the Manics end. He seems to be the sort of person who wants to keep his creativity with the band, and his reaction to TGW these days seems to be one of slight embarrasement because he did it by himself instead of with his friends and musical partners.

This suits me fine. I was thinking after the latest gig that a two year break from seeing them would be about right.

Hopefully Nicky will write a book about the band instead of a solo album.

Although I can't see anywhere in that interview that says no greatest hits (maybe they will do it in Nov/Dec and then fuck off) I think it's a good decision. The last album wasn't the best, I think they tried to play up to the mass communication mantra a bit too much forgetting that it wasn't 1996 anymore. A break will do them good and I'm sure they'll come back with something badass. I reckon there'll still be a gig or 2 in that period and I wouldn't be surprised if both did solo album/tours again

I'd agree completely - what I'd really like to see is Nicky writing the definitive biography (although maybe he is planning to do that when the Manics 'end', if they ever do?) and another JDB solo album (equally unlikely - as several people have said, he seems to have drawn a line under that for the time being).

They are one of the more prolific bands around, and we haven't done badly for gigs, albums and singels over the last 2 years so I suppose a break is in order for them. Looking forward to their triumphant return already.

2000 was also a 'breakpoint'. After that they came back with what at the time was considered to be their worst album - and one that effectively killed off their major league status. After the next breakpoint they came back with SATT, a total pile of shit.

But I'm remaining optimistic over this one!

I'm in the minority here but I'm disappointed. I was really looking forward to a winter tour. Quite happy for them to take next year off...

Regards,
Marwood.

A fine decision. That interview was quite interesting, are they maybe looking back on Postcards and already thinking it wasn't as good as they thought it?

A break will be nice and hopefully they come back with something fresh that will hopefully renew my love for them as it has diminished a little over the past year.

the band must be rather confused by the reaction to PFAYM, for it has been a success in regards of sales and reviews, but not, you would wager, the kind or form of success they hoped it would be.

rather than saying "we are not doing anything for 2 years" they shoud maybe rather say "the next album will be out when we're ready and when it's done". if it takes them 2 weeks or 5 years to come up with something, so be it.

Excuse me folks, but I've just watched the entire interview twice and I think this thread is wildly off-kilter.

What James actually says is that the new album will not be out this year or next year, "to give the audience a break", and so that they can decide "what sort of album it should be". James says he isn't keen on the "70 Songs" idea at all but that they are still having "internal arguments" about whether or not to do it.

The interviewer then asks if this is "the third breakpoint" for the band having earlier discussed breakpoints post-THB and post-Lifeblood, and James laughs at the question and says "it might be" in a way that suggests he hadn't even thought of it in those terms.

At no point whatsoever does he even mention the greatest hits or touring later in the year at all, he certainly doesn't say they're off the cards. At no point whatsoever does he say the band are taking two years off. The ONLY thing he says here is that they're taking their time with the new album. It certainly suggests they're slowing down a bit so that they can do something good with the new album, but it doesn't really suggest that they'll be disappearing or that the Greatest Hits and tour are scrubbed.

The only reason I didn't watch the interviews last night is that I was reading the thread on my iPhone, and assumed that four pages worth of posts meant people actually knew what they were on about In other words, steady on chaps!

Regards,
Marwood.
