No Surface All Feeling is probably one of my top ten MSP songs, and I can't stand Valley Boy.

I like Valley Boy. (But then, that's a given! )

I can actually see the connection dext is trying to make. I think they are clearly different songs (no real chord changes in common) but there are elements of the playing that might have made you think the songs are similar.

For example the little slide down James does after "speak my language...." is reminiscent of the one he does in NSAF's verses , but that's purely how he's playing it, and it's the chord changes themselves that make songs different.

James does some things throughout the Manics catalogue that just make up his style, for example chords picking out notes like he does on Australia, he repeats in lots of other places, for example he uses that technique on the song Journal for Plague lovers and many others.

I see what he means. No Surface All Feeling is obviously better though.

Indeed. Valley Boy is tucked away on a B-side for a reason.

Just realised Valley Boy is actually my favourite song from the Truth era - my least favourite era so not given it much thought.

Valley Boy would've improved TIMTTMY ten fold. Especially if Prologue To History opened the album instead of The Never-Ending i mean Everlasting.

I like Truth as it is, with Valley Boy being a great b-side.

As I've said before, Nicky's singing aside, I love all the Manics songs!

If it wasn't for the amazing solo, I'd have little interest in Valley Boy - a bit to dull in the main for me.
