The vast majority of musical acts only dream of selling as many copies of their albums as the Manics sold of 'Postcards'. And i'm pretty sure it sold a lot better than 'Lifeblood' - does that make it objectively better than it?

Look, I'm making a really simple point. Dislike 'Postcards' all you want. Just don't pretend that the whole world agrees with you, and keep repeating it over and over as though it's true.

I think people might be unfortunately making an assumption about PFAYM thinking that it didn't sell well, since it seemed to be having trouble at first and the singles didn't chart very high, but it panned out to a Gold in the end. Other Manics albums that hit gold in the UK: GT and SATT. Silver: GATS, JFPL. Platinum: EMG and TIMT. Can't find info on THB's certification (if any), and obviously KYE and LB were commercial flops. Critical reviews for PFAYM were generally favorable (things like 4 stars, 4 1/2, 7 out of ten and so on - see professional reviews tab on Wiki if anyone is interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postcards_from_a_Young_Man)

I'm not sure where on the forum people have been pretending that everyone else felt the same way, although there is indeed quite a collection of people here who didn't care for PFAYM and there is the possibility of assumption based on a significant portion of fan response. I was personally surprised to find out that it got a Gold certification and was widely reviewed so favorably by critics, at any rate, but if there are people criticizing PFAYM not knowing this information well, yes, they need to know the facts.

I think it's just people butting heads on message boards over their own opinions which they hold dearly as facts (ex. I hate the album, Nicky's disappointed about the singles not charting that high, that means it's horrible and nobody likes it!). I mean, Postcards is one of my least favorite Manics albums, but its a perfectly decent album and I can agree with all the decent overall acclaim it's gotten.

Then again, this is coming from someone who genuinely likes all of the Manics' albums, which apparently is an incredibly controversial stance? lol whatev.

He needs his own cookery show. Maybe that's what the Chrimbo surprise is! He'll be stuffing a turkey on national TV! (I'd watch it. And be consumed with naughty thoughts....)

Have I missed something? Where did all Nicky's negativity come from?

that's a good thing, his negativity, when he's not fine he's calm and helpless - when he's alright he's angry and spits at everybody - and then he's the most creative person ever. I'm hoping for some good words, no matter in which form: poem, lyrics, book or even silly tweet.

I can understand this, what with groups like N Dubz, The Wanted, The Script etc it was obviously going to be a younger audience. I know how he feels, occasionally I get sent to work in Top Shop, I always feel like jumping under the bus instead of boarding it on the way home!!
