Aye, the download on Amazon seems to be selling well, it's #1 on and rock and indie charts and #4 on the overall download chart

it is NTSC and region / code free. designed to play all around the world.

you can play your EMG DVD! download some free software called DVD Decrypter. it allows you to create a back up and select whatever zone you like for the disc, then if you take the backed up files and make a DVD of it using Nero (or similar i guess) you can instruct it to convert to NTSC if that's what you require.

Hey Lucy! Good to see you on here again, I was just wondering how the other Cambridge fan was doing.

you're very welcome, happy viewing! and do have a go at converting the EMG disc - it's well worth it and not "illegal" since you've bought the thing.

I don't even know what NTSC stands for. I sometimes mess around with settings when watching DVDs in bed on ym control, can go through PAL and then that NTSC and another, the NTSC makes it narrower, more damn bigger blackbars, grrr. Weird. As long as it plays that's all I care about I love watching Manics videos

Been watching the DVD over the last couple of days, actually glad I got it cos I'd never seen some of the post-FD vids before. This Is The Day, esp. the beginning with the four of them coming out of that door all glammed up.

back in the days when we converted NTSC to PAL we called it "Never The Same Colour" because it is crap compared to PAL in regards of quality. some expert can say, but it's "National Television Standard something that starts with C". all to do with frames per second and "lines" i think, but increasingly obsolete in regards of today's equipment where everything can play everything.

from a DVD production viewpoint, NTSC is the "winner" because due to the different "fps" you can compress it more and get more on a disc, and also don't have to produce a different disc for the US / Japan markets.

NTSC and PAL used to be a much bigger issue in the field of video games. All PAL games used to be squashed with borders at the top and bottom and ran much slower.

I think it's also true that PAL DVDs/VHS runs at different speeds to NTSC, or used to. I remember when I discovered that Homer Simpsons UK voice was a sped up lie!

http://forums.thedigitalfix.co.uk/fo....php?p=6034846

Anyhoo, as has already been determined, the NTSC NT DVD is inferior in quality to the PAL FD one.

Now, let's get back to how they've completely messed with the album. On the newest MP3 version, released to correct the mastering glitches on the first release, I've concluded that you have to turn the volume up (on iTunes) on disc 1 by around 40% to get it to the same volume as disc 2. Epic fail.

There seem to have been a whole spate of remastering bodge ups recently. All the recently released Rush box sets have faults, the Hold Your Fire one even uses different mixes. The difference is that the band have acknowledge that there are errors on their website. OK they haven't offered replacements yet, but at least we all know theres a mistake.
