Manics - with an Orchestra?

I have been pondering in the last few days about "orchestral" versions of the Manics songs ... I had been listening to some of the 'Stealth Sonic Orchestra' stuff that was released as b-sides and then stumbled on 'Royal Philharmonic Orchestra' complilation that had a cover of 'Design For Life' on ..

Curious what people's thoughts are about such incarnations of the songs .. and then there are many bands (e.g. like the Metallica 'S&M', or like Snow Patrol just did at the Royal Albert Hall) who done gigs - "re-imagining/re-arranging" some of their catalogue in to a live performace with a full live philharmonic/symphonic orchestra?

Where EMG is (as one example) is string heavy .. do you think the Manics would every venture into this territory? How well do you think that would be received?

I would love it. Probably not a popular opinion, but S&M is quite possibly my favourite Metallica album.

Orchestral rock is a bit passé by now, I think. Everyone has done it. It was kinda fresh back in 96.

They already did it - the Carling homecoming gig - and again of sorts at the Roundhouse for the JFPL tour.

They need to do it in the Wales Millennium Centre (the building next to Torchwood) in Cardiff Bay, perfect setting

Ha! You know what I mean Clearly it is/was a bit of a gimmick, but then lots of acts started doing it, and it became, just, yawn. IMHO and all that.

The Roundhouse JFPL gig I went to was one of my favourite MSP shows of all time. Even allowing for the Wire's buggered back, they were absolutely on fire weren't they. Magic.

Their past successes with something like this show they can execute it well, so why not more should they ever want to? The only thing I'd want from a gig like this are some less obvious choices (ie songs which didn't have a string section before or ones you never thought could even have one to begin with) and actually keeping the orchestra for every single song rather than doing the usual cop-out of brushing them off to the side for the most of the gig.

Rehash the songs so they dont play their usual instruments Sean on horns, JDB singing and the wire...? But that could be a problem with the wire(what he can play besides the bass and the guitar?)

That pause in the middle of This Joke Sport Severed before James came bouncing back into the room with his electric guitar and the orchestra... had been a while since a MSP show had made me really sit up and take notice.
