It would be very fitting for the Manics to make the new album a double. It could be their last studio album, and so to begin their career with a double album and then ending it with a double gives a lovely balance. It's also very Manics. Bands don't seem to be releasing double albums anymore. I don't know if that's because so many new bands only have one album in them, or just a current trend. A double album by the Manics would again prove that the band just do their own thing, and succeed with it.

It's not any less uncommon as it has been in the past, there's been a fairly steady amount of them appearing even during the past decade or so. They always were an uncommon format.

I won't get my hopes up, as this is Nicky we're talking about, but if this did happen I'd be one very happy Manics fan. It would be nice if this was a bit of a turning point for them regarding their feelings on Lifeblood now they're allegedly not chasing chart success anymore, but that's probably just wishful thinking on my part.
