It sounds like a polished technically well recorded album - it lacks rawness and energy but the sound fits the songs and what the band were after - one more effort at mass communication or whatever wire said. It was rock music for BMW drivers and did what it needed to - it was never ment to appeal in isolation to students or thb fans

Ironically, when Postcards came out, I found myself grumbling that two out of three collaborators where totally wasted and could not really be made out! Now it seems that the presence of three prominently presented guests as vocalists is what breaks the album for me. Just my luck!

Was so hoping you would say that.
My fav Bruce album by a million miles. Impressed a guy on a flight recently by watching the 2009 gig of Darkness at the Paramount Theatre. Fucking magic. Gonna watch the doc tonight now after all this! |

That disc is really hard to beat, especially all nice and crisp as a bluray. I watched it after seeing him play the album in full at Wembley a month ago, absolutely unreal.

No idea why people are so hostile & raging at Postcards From A Young Man, it me it just sounded like the sequel to Send Away The Tigers.
Postcards From A Young Man was another poor attempt at Pop, it worked with Lifeblood superbly but it did not need to carry on. Postcards was poorly produced & lyrically weak. MSP are much softer in their lyrics for some reason, apart from JFPL, I'm sick of these poncey fucking love songs, when a band starts using 'Love' or talking about relationships/where I F'ing went wrong all the time you know some thing's wrong. Christ MSP could write great ballads in the early years but since EMG/TIMTTMY era it got worse around 2001. (It's Not War) Just The End Of Love, god I can't stand that song or the another crappy Love single one on Send Away The Tigers. Golden Platitudes, good song but the bloody la la la la la la laaaaa la, what the hell is this?? MSP certainly 1 of the most important bands to me but I can't want to remember them for some woeful LP's/lyrics, it maybe in vogue to write pop songs but I want more aggression & directness if the 'I Don't Give A F*ck' in lyrics/music again, they can do it, I'm not trying to live in the past but we need a change to roots again not another boy band, I mean look at the cover of This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours, Boy Band style!! |

Still think PFAYM is SATT done right. One of their lesser albums but still scoring comfortably in the positive sector.

Postcards sounded cheap. Too glossy, too much of a Simon Cowell feel to it. It felt like it was produced with The Script in mind.
