haha, an attempt to change history

Doors Closing Slowly is magnificent!!!! Magnificent! It's the saddest Manics' song and it touches me every time I hear it or play it.

Give it another 3 or 4 listens, it IS a grower..

I think SATT is my least favourite album from them, well maybe after KYE

I've heard about just over 50% of it in total. May as well wait for next week.

Manorbier is easily their worst instrumental to date.

Not even a proper instrumental, cheeky Manics. A pity, as they have such a good track record. I still hold that Ostopolitik was the best thing to come from PFAYM.

I love this album. I agree with those who've commented on 4 Lonely Roads not sounding like them at all. The music is odd for them as well as Cate's vocals, but I enjoy it and I'm happy they've not done an album-by-numbers in that sense. I love Lucy Rose's voice alongside James on This Sullen Welsh Heart, and the strange rhythms on I Miss the Tokyo Skyline. Running Out of Fantasy a current favourite.

Anthem For a Lost Cause sounds like it could be on Eurovision...and win.

Miles, miles better than PFAYM. Not sure it gels as an album though, bit like KYE in that it's random.

Also those comparisons to TIMTTMY...absolute bollocks. A million, million miles away from it. Not a bad thing though!

More thoughts...some of the material sounds like it could've come straight off 'Lost Souls' by Doves. Haven't found a track i dislike..

Thanks Steve Lamaq for talking over the last track...you'd think DJs would fucking have learnt by now!

End:
What a fantastic collection of songs. I actually thought they'd had it when PFAYM was released, clearly not. Bring on the next one!

This one's going to take a while due its nature, inevitably 30 Year War stands out a mile, but I never thought I would get Lifeblood. Soon became the ultimate gorgeous and desolate Autumnal album with its icy electronics. I think the brilliance might unfold slowly. I think it needs to be taken for a walk or a bus trip. Currently it stands at...

01 This Sullen Welsh Heart 7
02 Show Me The Wonder 6
03 Rewind The Film 7
04 Builder of Routines 9
05 4 Lonely Roads 8
06 (I Miss The) Tokyo Skyline 7
07 Anthem For A Lost Cause 7
08 As Holy As The Soil (That Buries Your Skin) 7
09 3 Ways To See Despair 7
10 Running Out Of Fantasy 7
11 Manorbier 8
12 30 Year War 9.5

Lyrically maybe... musically I think it sounds like an American 50's diner jukebox hit...
