If Futurology and RTF were one overall album

ok so we got two Manics albums in a year, but what if it was one traditional 13 track album and not the two parter? Was thinking about this today due to the amount of boring songs on Futurology. I haven't lived with Futurology long but in terms of immediate impressions mine would look like so:

1. Futurology
2. Dreaming a City (Hugheskova)
3. 3 Ways to See Despair
4. Rewind the Film
5. Walk Me to the Bridge
6. As Holy As the Soil (I had to look this up I still call it the Soil song)
7. Europa
8. Misguided Missile
9. This Sullen Welsh Heart
10. The Next Jet to Leave Moscow
11. Black Square
12. Let's Go To War
13. 30 Year War

It wouldn't work as a coherent album though. Two distinct styles hence why they recorded two seperately after realising how contrasting they were. I can't even imagine a track list.

I think they compliment each other while having obviously distinct differences in their overall sounds. There are so many links and themes that can be made between the two albums.I think even if you put them in a jumbled playlist it'd be more coherent in style than KYE! (not meant as a dig at KYE).

I just picked the songs I liked best I've not even listened to them in that order, shall be my next task to create a playlist! The ones I like on Futurology I really like but I find myself skipping quite a few. I like the album ok but it isn't consistent. They may be different styles but I had a similar reaction to RTF

i'd like both mashed together, Sandinista!-style - going back to the original "70 Songs..." idea.

Well let's face it, one of these days Sony will reissue these two albums as one package as part of their "3 Album Classics" series. Except they'll probably stick PFAYM in there was well.

No. They are two very different albums and not compatible.

Even though they are completely different I think there could be a balanced album. Here's my idea...

1. Futurology
2. Show Me The Wonder
3. Walk Me To the Bridge
4. Lets Go to War
5. As Holy as the Soil
6. The Next Jet to Leave Moscow
7. Sullen Welsh Heart
8. Running out of Fantasy
9. Europa Geht Durch Mich
10. Manorbier
11. Between the Clock and the Bed
12. 30 Year War

Dunno about the two albums being together, but "The Next Jet to Leave Moscow" could definately be on Rewind The Film, probably slip it in before Tokyo.

Imagine a stripped down acoustic version of Sex, Power, Love and Money

"Rewind the Future"

Actually, I'd go with "Show Me the Wonder" as an album title. "Rewind the Future" is too X-Men.

1. Let's Go To War
2. Europa Geht Durch Mich
3. Rewind the Film
4. The Next Jet to Leave Moscow
5. I Miss the Tokyo Skyline
6. Builder of Routines
7. Black Square
8. 3 Ways to See Despair
9. Show Me The Wonder
10. Walk Me to the Bridge
11. Dreaming a City (Hugheskova)
12. Anthem for a Lost Cause
13. 30-Year War

WMTTB is going to sit after 30 Year War on my chronological playlist, that works - you can hear how 30YW connects the two albums.
