I, for one, want to see the return of the drunk man in the salmon pink suit.

And flowed, flowered for him, fluid neon origami trick, the unfolding of his distanceless home, his country, transparent 3D chessboard extending to infinity.
Inner eye opening to the stepped scarlet pyramid of the Eastern Seaboard Fission Authority burning beyond the green cubes of Mitsubishi Bank of America,
and high and very far away he saw the spiral arms of military systems, forever beyond his reach.
And somewhere he was laughing, in a white-painted loft, distant fingers caressing the deck, tears of release streaking his face.

Sadly, I am convinced that Nicky thinks no one liked IKTZ.

The shocking thing is that James feels the same about his one. And that was solid gold.

It's the same with their attitude to Lifeblood. Baffling.

Given the kicking that that album received in the press and its poor chart placing, it's hardly baffling.

Out of curiosity, how do you all think the Wire solo tracks compare with the Wire Manics tracks? There's an album's worth by now;

Wattsville Blues
The Ballad Of The Bangkok Novotel
Dying Breeds
Failure Bound
The Long Goodbye
Lady Lazarus
William's Last Words
The Future Has Been Here 4-Ever
Engage With Your Shadow
The Passing Show
Rock 'N' Roll Genius
As Holy As The Soul (That Buries Your Skin)
Death Of A Digital Ghost
Antisocial Manifesto
Before I Leave

Are covers excluded because you forgot Time Ain't Nothing, which i love. But, personally, i would say his solo tracks win by a fair margin. I've just about come to terms with what was done to the original lyric of william's last words.

edit: Of course there's also Failure Bound and Dying Breeds. Anything else?

I wasn't including 'Time Ain't Nothing' but can't believe I missed 'Dying Breeds' - that's one of his best!

You're right. But I would have hoped that the obvious fondness fans of the band have for Lifeblood would have changed their take on it, at least over time. It hasn't.

A few years ago this might actually have happened!

Well, half-happened. Over a period of several years. With about five and a half tracks completed, and the person who said they'd supply bass parts lost to a My Vitriol forum.

I put IKTZ on for the first time in a good while yesterday. I'd forgotten how good Ocean Rain is, tucked away at the end. The way he sings All at sea again... just makes me smile. Sums up the mix of resigned humour and melancholy, that oddly comforting Wire-ness, that makes the album so special.
