When will we get a new album?

It's 3 years since Futurology came out, but think on it was recorded over a year before wasn't it? Sean posted a photo ages ago of a CD saying 'MSP demos' I think, so they have been working on stuff. I know they've been moving recording studios for a while, but I was just thinking that as they've got a few festivals lined up this summer, maybe they'll have a new album around that time so they can play some new hit songs? Here's hoping!

I'm guessing they'll do a few festivals over the summer and possibly air a new song or two but I don't see an album being released this year. The new studio move took ages to finalise and they're not in there until April. We may get an album between October-December and a winter tour. I can wait. I'll let them get themselves away from the nostaglia circus they're on at the minute first.

It is possible to use other studios though surely? Doesn't save money, but then neither does waking up in the afternoon and watching Jeremy Kyle

I think the band prefer to have their own base and comforts. I can't wait for some new songs.

It seemed from that NME interview with James that they were nowhere near ready, although it was promising to hear that James "wanted to rock again".

I don't think we'll get anything til next year now. Real shame that they lost Faster, we'd probably have something by now if they hadn't.

I genuinely think the changing studios thing knocked them out of their writing and recording rhythm.

The other side of it is that they have very little motivation to get a new album out ASAP. They earn very little money from sales. An album is just an excuse to get touring again. So if you can re-issue three (YES THAT'S THREE!!!!) old albums in a row and get out touring and doing festivals (where they get a handy pay day playing the hits) then why would they bother rushing to write new stuff?

At this stage I'm happier they take their time and release what they want to release. If you were overly critical, you could say that conceptually RTF and F worked in terms of realising the ideas that they had (insular introspective acoustic vs. rockier album inspired by travel) but actually the albums weren't that strong overall.

So no rush really. Just take it easy on the reissues.

That raises a tricky timing issue doesn't it?

I presume that a Truth re-issue is very much on the cards in 2018.

The question then is whether they will tour Truth. There's a decent case for it because it didn't get much of an outing (aside from the singles) at the time. If it ends up just being a re-release it probably won't impact the other album too much. But if they want to tour it, they could get round that by coming back with the Truth re-issue early and then putting the new album out on the back of that hype that would probably generate.

I'm quite interested to understand why they've decided to play a bunch of random UK festivals rather than either doing a 10th anniversary tour for SATT or just a random tour off their own backs.

You'd think that by the summer they'd be in the studio knocking out tracks for the new album. Do they need to generate revenue to get the studio up and running or are they just trying to stay in the public eye?? (I don't think anyone knows the answer to this)

I'd rather see them touring properly in front of their own fans. They've done tours in the past when they haven't got anything to promote. I'd assume that they have a load of songs written, they probably need their own studio to finish off the demoing and recording process which could be another 3-6 months once they move in. Then it'll be up to the record company about when they want to release it so it could be months before we hear anything. Perhaps that's why we've got a SATT reissue.

James said recently the band have not played a scrap of music together since November. I've no doubt they have some finished songs but I can't see them doing much until 2018. The SATT thing is very much the record company going " Boys, we need to keep your profile in the public eye - go on and do a random Bristol appearence before Glastonbury. You can play that song about your love being not enough, not enough, not enough and the baby hair style one too!"

Out of interest, does anyone know how many albums the band have in their contract? I know a few years ago Nicky said they had signed a new deal, but I can't recall when that was, but I think it was before RTF and F were released.

Whilst we're on re-issues and anniversaries...

I'm thinking a little further ahead of the 20th anniversary of The Millennium concert, theres bound to be something done to honour/celebrate it surely?

The new contract was signed in May 2015!

Is this the longest gap between new albums in their history?
