Do we think we might get to hear another song late October/early November? Traditionally there’s roughly two months between the 1st & 2nd songs promoting the album…

Also, what do we think Caesar Edmunds will bring to the mix? He’s worked with Sunflower Bean & Wetleg, so not surprised they’ve chosen him.
This will be the 1st Manics album in Dolby Atmos, so wonder if that has helped push it into next year too?

I was thinking the same the other day. I strongly believe that after someone announced they played two new songs for Jools Holland, which will hopefully be broadcast together in a couple of weeks time we will see another single announcement happening around the same time. Also fits in with the RIF timeline of 5/6 months between first single and album release with a second single happening before the album release.

The long wait for the album could also be down to the vinyl. Takes well over 6 months.

I suspect it might be more than that even. Between re-issues and album releases (including even in exile), the band have released an album every calendar year. I suspect that the album release date / tour date is to ensure a steady cash flow over financial years (suspect the tour will be in April for this reason to reduce utilise tax fee allowances that they've used during the Suede co-tour).

This raises a question though about the following year, as the re-release material has nearly been used up. Not sure how much nostalgia there is for a PFAYM, RTF and F re-release, we on the forum would buy for access to those vinyl b-sides but what else is there that isn't widely available? I suspect we could see another best-of or perhaps a live compilation but that's wishful thinking on my part. Or perhaps they'll start churning albums out more regularly now that Nick's children have both finished school.

RiF part 2 indeed and that didn't fair so well... Remember they did TUVL camped in Rockfield together. Here is Jimbo talking about the new album:

“There was no MO,” he adds. “Sometimes we played live together in a definite band environment, other times it was more isolated, where I just laid a guitar down to a click [track], or Nick [Wire] put a vocal down with a click, or I’d do a really rough acoustic version, and we’d build from those. So it was about two years of intense, scatterbrained work.”

....although in the next paragraph it says they then did the drums and overdubs for a month in Rockfield.

Playing SONGS from their new album. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00...q3g-ISZmLtwEjg
Sorry, wasn't a Manics Special Gig then.

Yes, I think Nicky's Critical Thinking could be the next single as well.

This is what I dislike about RiF and also TUVL to an extent. They are recording albums as sections or layers, rather than as songs with a full band. It feels somewhat disconnected with songs lacking an anchor point. I get the impression that it's very rare for tracks to be rehearsed until after recording is completed and they're getting ready for the tour. Sometimes they come across as individual musicians who collaborate rather than a band that's been around for nigh on 40 years. I think it also ties into earlier comments from others about the lack of a Manics sound (for better and worse) especially lately as every layer is recorded in isolation.

T-shirt "We remortgaged all our houses for a new recording studio and we're still unhappy with our drum sound"!

I'm looking forward to the Jools thing actually. I'm sure there will be a chat.

I wonder if Critical Thinking (Even the NME and BBC saying that's the new album title) and Being Baptised are the three "singles" from the album with Decline&Fall?
There's going to be stuff that makes us wish that one was the lead single.

My wild guess is we'll hear Critical Thinking on Jools next week and it will be out as a single a week later. Then we'll get a third, James sung single in January, with the album released the same time. And a tour March/April followed by festivals and maybe a couple of support slots with Oasis in the summer (though probably only Cardiff, with Richard Ashcroft blagging the rest of the tour).

I just watched back the video for decline and fall. It's rubbish. Then I watched some new Shed Seven videos from their new album, very well made stuff, and a mini documentary which was so well put together. They clearly work with people who care and are passionate in the media, the Manics have... Kieran Evans haha.

Just watched the "HD" upscaled videos of the THB singles followed by the TUVL videos. There's such a contrast. Even when it's a full blown music video, Evans' style comes across as a glorified slideshow with camera movement and seemingly capturing the band in every bad angle. The TSHM video makes James look as if he just got kicked out of a dive bar after an all day bender. There's no energy there at all even when the song has a pounding rhythm section. There's all these uncomfortable close up shots and seem to be without any sense of humour. The THB videos (which are similarly budgeted judging by the production) on the other hand make the band look like living gods and are full of stark lighting and strong editing. All four members of the band never looked better before or after. Wish Evans would switch up his game a bit and inject a bit of energy and life into the next couple of videos.
