i got into them at a bit of a random time 95 almost prior to richey's disappearance so EMG era was the start of my fandom although at that time it was the back catalogue i was listening to/that cemented my love of them

With all due respect to Richey i don't think they'd have survived carrying on in THB vein (obviously on a personal level - certainly not commercialy) I love that album but it's dark and painful (which is why it's fab but to many it's just too obscure)

EMG was the album that kind of made them a part (albeit at the latter stages) of Britpop ADFL was massive as those that were around at the time will prob agree...suddenly my older brother/sister/friends were listening to them, they appeared on mainstreem Shine type compilations and they were taken a bit more seriously/gained recognition

I don't think the Nirvana/foo fighters comparison is along the same line (and i was a Nirvana fan too) for the obvious reason that Richey wasn't the singer and therefore 'frontman' and Foo Fighters at least at the start was basically Dave

Personally i think they would have disappeared into obscurity after THB had they not carried on maybe cult status but to a small few not in the main
