For what it's worth, I'd consider myself a 'hardcore' R.E.M. fan (whatever that might mean). I adore Losing My Religion and never tire of hearing it. Yes, it's been played to death, but it is such a strong song, both musically and lyrically, that its impact, for me, never weakens. Man On The Moon is probably the song that gets played so much that I now find it a bit of a bore.
Anyway, I'd say that Losing My Religion is R.E.M.'s A Design For Life.
