The Holy Bible is the best Manics album for one very good reason - it's the best distillation of the talents of all 4 members. The lyrics Richey wrote are some of the best he did. Nicky contributes one of his best ever lyrics in "This Is Yesterday". James has never sounded better and his guitar playing is stunning. And Sean underpins all of it with the best drumming he would ever do (until JFPL, which I maintain is a total showcase for the awesomeness of Sean's thumping).
The only close rivals are EMG and JFPL, but both have just a little something missing. But not much. Altogether, those stand as the three best Manics albums for me because they so perfectly combine the talents of all 4 members. All the other albums - the ones I like and the ones I don't - are slightly flawed. Or in the case of KYE, utterly fucking doomed from the start.
