It's the kind of thing that happens when you're already run down or in James's case, smoking 20 a day. Singing is his career so he either copes with it or gives up smoking at least in the run up to a tour where he has to preserve his voice. It's the fact that they do it all the time, give some flimsy illness excuse and expect that to be compensation for all the money people waste on going to see them. They have such a bad record for it.

Smoking and whatever else hasn't damaged Keith Richards' voice, or Ronnie Wood's or Eddie Veder'.... drugs n shit are always a good thing and add some flavour to proceedings. A slightly hoarse James would sound good. Like Phoebe in Friends.
