ELO's Jeff Lynne Producing MSP In The Future. Could It Happen? Good Idea?
Since James and Jeff met at the Q Awards I've bought alot of ELO records.
Jeff said something about " Should I produce them? I love their string arrangements..." blah de blah. Well, what do you think? Will it ever happen and would it be a good idea anyway? |

Nah thanks, I've got plenty of Beatles albums.

It would work for JDB's solo material but not for the Manics' work.

Well I think Time, Balance Of Power, Eldorado and Face The Music are class.
Oh, and Out Of The Blue. James and Jeff should do a duet. That would be interesting. Don't know if Mr Lynne does much singing these days. Don't be sarky you lot. Want a proper discussion. |

The thought of Nicky doing a vocoder backing, or even JDB giving it some "shoo doo doo be doo wah wap a da dahhs" has a certain charm. but it all depends on the songs. Sadly all Jeff's drums sound the same basic dum thump dum thump dum thump (see Free As A Bird by The Beatles). How would Sean sound? Not holding my breath, but if it happens, it happens. Rather Jeff Lynne than George Martin, put it that way.

A few years back, i think it was on Virgin Radio, some DJ done some crappy mash-ups and one of them was A Design For Life with ELO's Don't Bring Me Down.

if he produced them, doesn't mean every song will sound like an ELO song...
ELO had some fantastic tunes, and Lynne knew what he was doing. I reckon he could bring a certain quality out in them... I think it'd be much more TIMT or LB if he did get together with them tho

Thats fine by me. Keep listening to Balance Of Power at the moment. I absolutely love It's Getting To The Point and Calling America is just pure, OTT, Overblown joy. JDB thinks they're better than the Beatles and I'm starting to agree with him a bit ( ooh! controversial!).

noooooooooo, Balance Of Power is an awful album!!
I once met an ELO fan on the net, who was also a huge manics fan. Back when I was about 13 or so. He sent me tapes with all the manics B-sides on em

Sorry, I *loathe* ELO and I *loathe* Jeff Lynne's productions, I think he has killed everything he's ever touched.
Take that as a no!

I respect both of your opinions. I just don't agree with them. Don't like the cover of Eldorado though - scary Wicked Witch business.

Back cover of Face The Music is infinitely more scary...
I just can't see Jeff Lynne and Manics working. At all... I don't think he'd get them

I've always wanted to hear James cover Evil Woman.

He was listening to Manics records while he was in the UK for his Q Icon award so who says he can't "get them".

Yeah...
I dunno I just don't think he'd get where it was coming from, what they suit in terms of production. I mean, can you really see Jeff Lynne coming out with anything like what the Manics do?
