James' Voice
Was listening to Generation Terrorists earlier and noticed that his voice is way higher back then, even compared to GATS, anyone know any reason to this?

Probably his age. As you get older, it deepens. That and the fact that his voice has matured a lot since then. If you compare the vocals on the early demos to their most recent stuff, it's like listening to two completely different vocalists.

Yeah thats what i thought but its only two years difference between GT and THB, maybe its just because he uses it so much

The easy answer is that he's James Dean Fucking Bradfield, and he does as he pleases!
But, the extra bit of time's experience (live, demoing), the fact that GATtS has kind of a different tone, all that would do it, I imagine.

his balls did not drop until Sean kicked him in the nuts after James thought it would be a 'good idea' to have Sleepflower on the setlist for Pheonix 93.

He was younger obviously. Age deepens the voice plus he's a smoker and that helps make it more gravelly. If gravelly is an actual word!

His voice got deeper after he ate Richey in February '95.

mafiamonroe is correct. It's axiomatic that EVERYONE loses the top end of their vocal range as they age (look at all the opera singers who do). Smoking doesn't *help* but is not the primary reason. Age is.

His voice on GT was great. His voice, unfortunately hasn't been great post-Richey in my opinion, but he was back to the archetypal Manics shouty rock on JFPL.

I just think that his voice was better in the early period (91-95) then '96 onwards.

I agree with Looke on this one. I think his voice has got better with age!

I don't think his voice is that much different now than before. In GT songs he had to sing high notes, but in new songs there ain't that much screaming and high notes, so maybe it just seems that there's a huge difference and it's not actually.
