Hi, McLaren, I'm one of the forum's resident c***s.

This is almost as FACTUALLY INCORRECT as the previous statement. Quote:
That's a weak ending for a closer, though. The cymbals also sound all but identical to the ones that bring Auto-Intoxication to a close. This bothers me, McLaren. Like you, they are obviously well on their way to thinking this is the way all good tunes should end. Quote:

I read the review earlier today and whilst I cant really agree/disagree considering I have yet to hear Postcards, It seems like a good and fair review.

Good review, James. I like it...... although I think most people on this forum will take issue with the fact that you feel that Some Kind Of Nothingness is the weakest on the record.... a lot of people think it's the best (not myself, mind you) .

Nice ending, people bought SATT, they'll buy this, of course they won't reach late 90s popularity but people will revisit the Manics because of this.
Completely disagree about SKON though, the choirs at the end give it a euphoric finish. Thanks for the review anyway.

Cheers for the review James! Haven't heard all of Some Kind Of Nothingness yet but I have a feeling I will disagree with you on that one!

Sorry, I don't like the review. Simply because (thanks Kirby) I have thoushands of objections...
4 example: The single hasn't got good video, it won't attrack no new fan at all Postcards ending is an obvious rip of Somebody To Love intermezzo. when You're mentioning aby influences and similarities Queen has to mentioned too for sure. Hazleton Avenue has nothing to do with Sleepflower. OMG, Sleepflower has genius (if You like it...but certainly) rock riff, HA has no rock riff, it's a pop arrangement half-soloing. I'm glad that you like TFHBHF but it's probably too much to say that it's chorus is superb... There are NO genius moments. but I really like Your ITIF-Pearl Jam comparison. It's truly that bad song!

Thoughtful, fair review. I do like 'Some Kind of Nothingness'.
My perspective is North American with a bit of Anglophile. I too felt that 'The Future Has Been Here 4Ever' reminded me of a lot of things. Including a weird thought of the early 70s 'Pufnstuf'. I don't know why. Maybe it's just the 70s sound in parts. |

Thanks for all the thoughts!
obviously each review or track-by-track guide isn't going to please everyone, but i always try to be honest and it's by nature entirely subjective. i'm also very aware that i'm far from an expert on any one welsh act, i have to spread myself a bit thin for that ;-) but that does mean that you - the forum users - are an amazing group to be able to discuss stuff with as you'll have a level of understanding and knowledge greater than mine. the sleepflower comparison (and perhaps i should have made this clearer in retrospect) is not the riff, but the guitar sound. i think the same pedal or effect must have been used. i avoided the queen reference as quite a few other reviews have mentioned it; plus it didn't strike me quite as hard. |

Yeah I wasn't hearing as much Queen as we'd been promised but maybe I just need to hear more Queen.
