The lyrics are so bad it's hard to know what the song is about, apart from the vague reference to Jimmy McGovern's drama about Hillsborough there's nothing of any substance.

The song is about Nicky trying to put into words how he feels / felt about the disaster and basically struggling to do so because of the enormity of the situation. That's how I see it anyway!

I wouldn't knock him for trying, but it really didn't work.
FFS can people stop writing songs that just keep refering to themselves. And refering to themselves as nothing more imaginative than a song. 'This is a song, this is a song about...' Maybe it is, but I really don't care what it's about anymore as it's main interest seems to be in itself.

Not struggling to do so, failing to do so. You may struggle to do so, but in the end you need to suceed, not write a song about how you can't....just don't do a song at all!

That's the point of the song though. Trying to but failing. It was obviously something he felt he needed to do at the time. Some people like it, others don't. That's songwriting.

I agree to a certain extent but by not even acknowledging what the song was about it becomes a failure*. No mention of the South Yorkshire Police being the ones labelled as a mass murderer, or the on-going fight for justice for those 96 who died. The song is rendered meaningless and it really is a subject that deserves more thought. Still the Manics worst song for me!
