I think either the hat or (especially) the jacket would qualify as a mid-life crisis on their own. Taken together he's approaching crisis critical mass.

Wasn't the close up doc on? My DVD recorder menu shows it's there. I'll have to check. If it isn't I'm very disappointed. I have it on video from when it was on in 1998 and it was a good doc

Just saw the doc was replaced by a repeat of question time. the bbc are giant jobbies!

No, it was replaced by the Jennifer Aniston film Management (unless your region was an exception). Not that it really matters what replaced it of course. Bizarre that it got so close to (re)transmission before they changed their minds (or had them changed for them).

BBC2 Scotland was QT. My DVD player still recorded it under the title Close Up so it much have got pretty close to transmission before it was pulled. I think the Manics would rather it was pulled for QT than for that stick with the wavy arms
