New single - friday 8/12

So, the premiere of the new single, this Friday morning on Radio X.
No title yet. Hopefully, it will be the song from the trailer (beginning 1:01).

Such a long time ago we heard some new material. Looking forward!

This week's Instagram frenzy would suggest the single centres around the colour Blue. The jigsaw tag "Blue has no dimension, it is beyond dimensions" (Yves Klein), the Bunnymen & Bowie "Blue" lyric quotes, the "Blue Beach" sign, etc.

Maybe it features "An Interpolation" of Eiffel 65's "Blue" (Tee hee, chortle).

I'm hoping it's officially "released" in early January though (poss Top 75 action & "New Year" new music airplay) 'cos it's gonna get buried in the Xmas rush otherwise.

Or Blue Sunshine?

"It could happen to you..."

Or maybe a Kevin Ayers cover? Don't knock it! That guitar riff is walking through the pearly gates while day-glow Elvis impersonators sway! https://youtu.be/nwcdjbtyWYM (1.01 if you can't wait)

Sorry, too much Twin Peaks for me.

If we’re guessing song titles then how about ‘Betty Blue’? Wasn’t the band name going to be that until the infamous busking session in Cardiff?

Lead single five months ahead of the album? This is all very bizarre. "Look, we've finished a track, let's put it out to prove that we really are doing this album!"

It's what indie bands do now - the advance campaigns go on for ever.

Four months, not five.

First single in December, second in February and then another in April to coincide with the album’s release. Not the worst idea in the world. It’s been a while since they made it to a fourth single!

Remember (based on prior form)

1) it’s likely to be a hard listen at first
2) the rest of the album won’t be much like it
3) it’ll grow on you

Well that's hard to say.
The last time I had reaction 1 was TLORN. INWJTEOL gave me reaction 2. And TLORN and SWSS gave me 3.
My feeling is it's been a while since we had a new single it's impossible to live up to the expectations, but it'll be a nice enough listen.
Of course if it knocks that last sentence on its arse then all the better!

The single will only blow me away if:

a) it's got a killer riff
b) it has lyrics that actually say something
c) it is loud as fuck
d) it's not another harking back to EMG, a la SATT, PFAYM, etc.

The chances of this happening are slim.

Once bitten, twice shy after the trauma of "It's Not War..." in the suffocating humidity of the Andalusian mountains on my shitty old Dell laptop - "To feel forgiveness, you've gotta forgive..." My goodness.

I suppose I was thinking of "Rewind the Film" (the song, and album) when I posted that

The National released their first single from Sleep Well Beast a full four months before the album came out as an example. This is all pretty common these days, so I'm not surprised the Manics are doing this.

Sadly, this is also how I feel.

Hoping for Faster, probably getting Anthem For A Lost Cause.

Hopefully there'll be a few b-sides though. Maybe a tasty remix.
