I certainly had a wry chuckle to myself as it played.

Dear Stephen played at 2nd show. “ I think that’s what it’s called, I know we’ve got form in this area” (re the Stephen/Steven spelling I assume)

Chorus lyric: “Dear Stephen, come back to us”

Well if the band ever go under they'll have a profitable sideline in writing theme tunes to sit-coms/comedy dramas

Dear Stephen on youtube

Weird, I like all the songs now... Just had a listen Decline and Fall through People Ruin Paintings and they all have a very uniquely Sean Moore bounce to them, but somehow amplified. Very dancey. I think this bass and drum thing is the main strength here. Very nice mixes too, quite spacey...

I even like decline and fall, the piano sounds nice.

Very weird. Maybe I'm just in a pretty good mood after a long time, but I like the easy-breezy-whatever feel of these songs. James sounds better than he's sounded in a long time. They melodies are so strong he doesn't have too do a lot of work.

Not gonna listen to Dear Stephen, gotta leave something for release day too

I’m really enjoying playing that third of the album through together. The songs sit nicely against each other, but also feel distinctive.
Fascinated by the fact that the second half of the album is still a mystery, set to unfold on release day. And then there’s the 2 extra tracks on the 7” as well.
Oooooh hurry up Feb 14th!!!

Was good to see Nicky and James on Sunday Brunch today and nice to hear their comments and detail about the album. I thought James seemed to enjoy the wine tasting on the show and was nice that he played PRP at the end which seemed like his track.

Waiting for Msppedia to put Sunday brunch up on YouTube. Tried streaming but endless ads tested my patience.

I'd be grateful if someone linked here once it appears...

I've gone from "THIS IS THE END OF MANICS THEY SHOULD QUIT" whining to "just a collection of their best songs is a great move right now". Seems like its gonna be a group solo album, which I like. They haven't done it yet. I even like the cover which I thought was hokey before. Weird how the brain forms its opinions.

The chorus is another knock off of International Blue isn't it, just as Decline and Fall was. I was sat in bed this morning pondering what the weak link is and all roads lead to Dave Eringa (and possibly their own studio). Worth pointing out that Dave Eringa mixed this song, unlike the other three which were done by others. Double Dave is a recipe for disaster.

Thinking about this, I'm more inclined to think the issue is having their own studio. From RiF, they've been creating and recording their tracks separately, and I think having a known quantity like Eringa probably allows them to this without adding another layer of friction. With James and Nick having young children and Sean travelling in from the mid lands, I suspect this approach allows them to be flexible. Still it would do them well to shake things up and get in the studio with a new producer, add a bit of discomfort to the mix.

If anyone's looking for it, Youtube is where you'll find the community of Manics fans who aren't a bunch of miserable whiney bastards. 'Double Dave is a recipe for disaster' indeed, man, shut the fuck up.
