I'm sure a while back there was an interview in which he lamented the lack of working class bands and it sounded very oblivious. Perhaps he has a bit more awareness now.

Hopefully the Manic's marketing team have time to get this quote onto the Critical Thinking front cover.

While I don't think they're desperate enough to steal praise for another artists effort quite yet, I wouldn't put it past them seeing as how they fucked up the timely release of an album that has been finished for almost 12 months at this stage .

Really wish that 2014 wasn't the last time I could give that quote about a manics album.

Good media all round again - just as with TUVL. You can tell they really took a step up a few years ago and there has been a decent combined effort across media appearances and their social media pages.

Only speculating but I wonder if a new team came in around the Even in Exile time - James was pretty much doing a video interview (remotely!) per day.

They may not be able to get a record in an envelope (or without a typo) - but someones pulling a shift

Yeah interesting stuff. I think James was also doing video interview around covid so it's nice to see they have continued more video interviews and tv, like on the sunday brunch it was interesting to see the album there and they were not rehearsed, Nicky saying he stays at home more than James who went on the panel enjoying Japanese sparkly wine. I thought James solo acoustic of PRP at the end was brilliant and kind of reminded me of a track from Even in Exile. I hope they continue more tv and interviews.

I am always pleased to see the 'static caravan' videos, even if James talks about bloody crisps again. Is this in the studio? Someone's living room? An actual static caravan?!

I remember when Sean was in his 'perenially online' stage during Covid and he was moaning about his fridge from Currys and his kitchen was just a kitchen. Why don't rock stars live in mansions?!

There is something comforting about a Nicky interview. He does seem to be talking more for the sake of talking these days, though I guess this comes with age.

Yeah i've also wondered where they are in the videos? possibly a dining room in their house or where they relax to eat crisps and chat. There isn’t much light through the window so possibly it's part of the studio. Not sure if they've lived in a mansion? though doesn't Nicky like to have space at home and to garden. Have to say I always love the philosophical and the funny comments he makes at concerts.

Absolute Radio posted a video saying they thought one packet of those crisps costs £17.
Then it cut to Nicky saying he'd happily pay that amount. Sorry, but I laughed.
I know I get accused of giving them a free pass. But they can be really funny. Maybe not intentionally.

Review in Dutch.

https://oor.nl/albums/critical-thinking/

In brief: boring album with a decent title track.

And a review of Brushstrokes of Reunion

https://www.dansendeberen.be/2025/02...es-of-reunion/

In brief: decent but 13 in a dozen-manics.

Just translated the rockin'on Magazine interview from January, thought this bit was interesting:

Quote:
With that in mind, what does 2025 look like for Manic Street Preachers?

For the past three years, we've been performing live in various ways and places. As you know, we toured with Suede three times. We've been to Singapore, and had shows in Japan and Taiwan. We also went to America with them and did a UK tour. So I hope we can continue exploring the world a bit more in 2025. I'd like to go to other places in Asia as well, and even if the scale of the shows gets smaller, I want to return to local areas in Japan.

I had a great time in places like Sapporo, Sendai, and Fukuoka. I would even want to go just to enjoy the food (laughs). In any case, compared to the last ten years, I used to travel around the world more, and I want to believe that I still have the strength to do that. I also have a long-standing dream of recording in Tokyo, so I hope that can be realized too. I think a good cultural clash will happen. Good results can come when you try things in different ways. In any case, I want to do something that surprises myself in 2025
