Ah, fuck the charts. Manics have had more number one albums than The Clash anyway, they should be happy

They probably could have got away with releasing it last Monday, they havent played so many of the new songs that the crowd on tour would have been lost, they probably thought this weeks releases were stronger competition than Phil and The Script, Sony cock up #9526185

i'm still clueless as to who the script actually are.. with a number 2 album i should at least know a couple songs right? Even Daybreak ignored them last week saying that Phil had beaten the manics to get to number 1. Normally the number 2 artist is the one that's mentioned I guess they're a radio 1 band.

Yes, but they have not sold as many albums as The Clash nor have they ever achieved the same level of success The Clash gained internationally, particularly in the States. The Clash actually 'broke' in the US and save for a handful British bands, this rarely happens. They also sold out stadiums in the States back in the early 80's, the Manics can barely pull in 2,000 people to one gig in NYC.

I get what you're trying to say and for the most part, I agree, but comparing the Manics to The Clash's success isn't completely accurate even if it seems fairly cut and dry.

Haha! True true!

I'm not in a band so I can't speak directly to how euphoric it might be to have a number one album, but honestly, numbe one doesn't always mean top sales over a period of time (speaking of The Clash, Combat Rock only reached somethin like #7 in the US charts, but the album itself stayed on the charts for close to two years eventually going platinum) nor does it mean staying power. Look at the amount of recording artists who have had number one albums only to have their next effort flop and find themselves in the "where are they now?" pile. Besides many of the albums I personally consider bloody brilliant or are generally regarded as masterpieces by musos, never reached number one. In fact, they barely made the charts at all. In a nutshell, I suppose I can see why the band themselves might be disappointed that their album didn't reach #1 in the UK charts especially considering that this album was specifically designed (in their minds at least) to appeal to the masses rather than just their own fan base, but I'm not too sure why fans of the band really care. If you like the album, what does it matter that I didn't reach #1?

Dark Side Of The Moon never made it to UK number one! Suppose the Clash comment was kinda sloppy. Plus, this is a time when stuff used to climb up the charts rather than peak immediately and disappear a fortnight later so there were bound to be more sales. Stupid X Factor generation, everyone's here today, gone tomorrow. I could probably name about 10 people who've been on X Factor and had big hits, but I couldn't tell ya where they've been for the last couple of years.

Thinking with him saying they would've been number one this week, so if this week's number one had been released last week they'd have been number 4 at best.

EDIT: The this week's number one being last week's number four doesn't work seeing as it was last week's number two... Oops. Ah well, I know what I meant, I hope you do to

Got nothing to say about Twitter, but just thought I'd tell ya that the first football match I ever went to was a friendly between Hull City and Halifax Town. We won 2-1, your keeper was shit, he kicked the ball at Linton Brown's back and it went over his head and in.
