The whole 'we gave you it for free, stop moaning' argument doesn't really stand up seen as Underdogs ended up on SATT...which most fans bought (in multiple formats no doubt). That whole period just seemed petty on the band's part and frankly, the criticisms of Underdogs aren't even the worst things ever said by fans about the band. And there's always been a love/hate thing from both sides anyway (long before Underdogs was even written), so I never really understood what the big deal was.

Ordered my copy at last! I love Underdogs so never really understood what the moaning about it was for. I barely notice the edit when I listen to it these days!

I think the original concept was always quite close to what was produced, but I think that was just a big deal at the time the film was made.

just watched it today. really liked it, very similar to the screening i saw a few years ago, with the addition of the animations etc. havent gotten the chance to look at all the extras yet, but definitely a great addition to the collection.

Finally got to see this last night. Ordered it from amazon. I did think of cancelling when it came available on the film-makers website but i agree with whoever it was that said more people will see it if you order it from them.. sorry!
Loved it.. i was a bit worried that the fan segments would get a bit boring with repetitions of why people loved the band but it was pitched just right. I didn't think anyone came across as awkward or needed make-up. Thank you so much Elizabeth for not giving up on it..

And I feel I have to defend one of the American talking heads when asked about the Manics. He said he couldn't get into them as opposed to never heard of them.

This doc is pretty crap to be honest, I mean why are they focusing around 2007 & this bland SATT LP??
There is more dialogue spoken from everyone else then them. Not worth buying that's for sure. Anyone non white being interviewed ever? I mean ok, in all the 400 gigs or so I've attended etc 96% are Caucasian but you could have interviewed someone who was an ethnic minority like me |

the crow - i'm sure elizabeth can answer.
but i wanted to say that that's when the documentary was shot, 2005-2006.

Ahh ok, thanks for that.
I could only assume that was the reason because considering 7 yrs have passed since SATT was released so it makes little sense to shoot a documentary nearly 10 yrs ago & then release it when much opinion etc would have changed. |

I downloaded it & I got no issue with it etc because that's the way it is.
I was not aware of the volunteering of input. Either way it gets 3/10, its not really a doc, more chit/chat & opinions. Mind you its true what they said, Richey was a rubbish guitarist etc but had something on stage. I can't judge as I saw them after he vanished. |

Manics gigs are hella white, so the interviewees were probably fairly representative of the average fan, aside from so many of them being American.

Thought I should offer my opinion on this after a friend mentioned to me that it was out, despite the fact that I don't really have much of an interest in the band any more. I really wanted this to get a proper release, so buying a digital copy to support the filmmakers was the least I could have done.
Guess it covers the period in which I was a rather happy Manics fan - 2006/2007, which is when I really started going to gigs, starting with the JDB solo tour. The interviews with the fans were cool and I enjoyed listening to people's opinions on the band, even though they're nothing out of the ordinary if you're a regular at gigs or post on FD etc. To the guy a few posts above saying that ethnic minorities never got interviewed - well I guess I would come under that bracket and a friend asked me if I would be interested in getting interviewed, but I didn't want to, so there you go - at least I had the chance (and I'm glad I didn't take it!). Also very much enjoyed the studio footage, which is a side of the band we don't really get to see much of at all. Guess they could make a full DVD out of that stuff (and I'd definitely buy it) and it would be watchable. It has changed a lot since I watched it in London a couple of years ago (or was it three years back?), I wasn't really overly bothered about the Rush interview, they could have just cut that bit out in my opinion. Overall, very funny and interesting to watch and it brought back a lot of great memories of a good time. Does anyone know the 4 songs that are on the DVD? I'm tempted to buy that version too.
