*Waits for ambush, feels rather sorry for being down about it*

That said I love Rewind the Film! I keep listening to it over and over again.
I love the album as a body of work but In terms of singles, there's nothing on there that jumps out as outstanding other than sullen welsh heart in my opinion..

I thought the Jools performance was what us northerns call canny good.

I've had my weekly 'Later...' review from my parents and dad wasn't impressed with the Manics. Sad times for the lads.

He also described Jake Bugg as "Two four year olds playing guitar and their granddad on drums" which made me laugh.

Tragically no. However, if we did I'm sure I'd struggle to find any negative tweets to share.* It will be the same with Sullen Welsh Heart. The performance of that song with Lucy Rose will end up getting the most views when the three individual videos are put up on YouTube. But don't let that get in the way of their single choices.

*Unless they were from the posters on here who prefer the cover of the Neighbours theme.

I think Anthem will do well!

There was a thread on the Guardian site about music that educates, i.e the lyrics refer to literature, politics etc.

Someone mentioned early Manics and another said they saw them on Later earlier this week and thought they sounded like Chas and Dave!

Not sure their appearance will attract any new fans. Show Me The Wonder everyone will have heard while Anthem is OK for an album track but is actually a bit dull for a single.

Interested that Nicky alluded to RTF being a bit of a Nebraska...RTF isn't gritty enough really and that's its main downfall. Too much of it is Middle of the Road in its arrangements and playing which is a shame because it could have sounded much better.

Having said that, there's a fair few poor songs on it that no amount of gritty realism could hide!

I don't think casual fans will 'get' this album though. For most people this is just a MOR Manics album, and another reason to point out how boring they are. But we know better

"Neutral friend" I mentioned in the other post, said he could see the direction they'd taken but that it's sounds a bit tacky where it should be warm and gritty as you say. He also commented in 2013 when you can emulate just about any vintage sound you want, that isn't a great sign.

I was forced to listen to Radio 2 for over a year at an old workplace and I'd say for better or worse that the last 2 albums would sit happily on that station.

Of course. They've both been R2's album of the week.
