Damn right. Best tune on KYE but shit lyrics and muddy production ruined it.

Reading this thread, I'd be 100 times more up for an EMG tour if they played the b-sides. Some gems from this era.

It's going to happen regardless. The band unfortunately are making money from a trip down memory lane. EMG is a great album but this fan is growing tired of the reissues of only the most well reviewed albums and what they signify in the bands career. I just want new songs.

A perfect album for me would encompass a little bit from previous albums and something entirely unique.

Plus, in public perception they are the band that "just toured THB" and not the band that released two albums in the span of just under two years, as even Futurology is now more than a year old, and attention spans are short. If they primarily want to be a nostalgia act, or primarily want to be a nostalgia act for the time being, then fair enough, but I think it's time then they stopped talking as if they were different from all those other bands who primarily are museum acts. I for one hope that they come back with one album instead of two next time, but that one is coherent, focused and really well-written and conceived. Until then we can all enjoy the cotton-candy at the museum roadshow.

Plucking a random date from the Futurology Euro tour, this is the construction of the setlist (by era) for those interested: GT-TIMT: 59% KYE-PFAYM: 13.8% RTF & Futurology: 27.2% From that, I would make the argument that the heritage aspect of the setlists has long been a part of the furniture.

To be fair they are kind of bound to do any anniversary gigs at a specific time to coincide with the anniversary year. They either do EMG next year or they'll have to wait 5-10 years more for another significant anniversary to come round. Same goes for THB.

I'd welcome that too! And definitely will be looking forward to the Lifeblood ones in 2024 as well

The thing is, although both were the biggest sellers of their albums, a night of TIMT in 2018 could put them in a run of 5-6 years of retrospectives. It would be interesting to see if that is a bit too much even for nostalgia fest lovers. The Holy Bible seems absolutely perfect to do an evening of Set 1: Album in full, Set 2: Oddities & rarities. Although more people know the EMG/TIMT stuff, knowledge of the B-sides won't be all that great. There would possibly be some temptation to go big with an EMG tour, since it was the album that sent them into the arenas, so the idea of a rarities set probably won't work as well there.
One way of tackling this, and the new music conundrum is to piggyback them. Kill 2 million selling birds with one stone. Truth is quite a relaxed album, and according to James' rating in the recent article, not one that they look back on as fondly as The Blue Album. So, maybe they could do something in late 17-18 perhaps Set 1: TIMT, Set 2: EMG. I reckon that could work quite well. Before that, a new album of some description perhaps.

After all a lot of bands on this number of albums might well be taking say 5 years to produce an album. |
