I did look around at one point and go 'Fuck, we all got old. Nobody is pogoing to Motown Junk!' I tried my best in the middle of some dead corpses but even my pogoing days are over since my knee fell off!

THIS during the Everlasting people were either chattering away next to me, or singing along like it was a rugby anthem(singing along is great, I do it, but not shouting!)...

Don't worry...eventually we will be fighting for the barrier in our wheelchairs and zimmerframe, and the manics will shuffle on and james will announce that nicky is more machine than man now.

Well people may not like certain songs and it is incredibly unrealistic to expect people to be quiet during the acoustic set. It can be off putting but for a lot of casual fans its a social thing too. James only sang bits of The Everlasting anyway and let the crowd fill in the rest. That was loud.

Really enjoyed friday night, the highlight for me was NSAF and Richard Hawley joining them, was great to see all the ever familiar faces, just hope they get to do more of the new stuff over the tour.

Late but this was excellent. Stood about midway with the utter Lads Brigade that was Rich, Alex, Khizar and Mat and had an amazing time. Crowd was tame but they knew the words and were appreciative so I had no problem with them. Ocean Spray was excellent, haters to the left, but Elvis Impersonator was my definite highlight.

Oh, would you look at that. The first time I've ever been able to make every date on a tour, and the t-shirts list a sodding festival I'm not going to as part of the tour.
WHY DO YOU HATE ME MANICS????

Our air-guitar was flawless, James was copying us.

People who missed the merch stall - it was just to the right when we went through the doors. In the little reception bit that the guest list people were going in through. Easy to miss (as I did on the way in).
Love that all the people complaining about the setlist weren't actually there I know what it's like sitting at home watching these lists appear, but it's a completely different experience when you're actually there. Sure, when you see The Everlasting listed on a website it's easy to think "same old, same old", but you're missing your emotional response to the music, the crowd's reactions, James' mood, his interactions with the crowd, his little jokes, etc. And that's true of the entire gig. The way James and Nicky relate to each other and poke fun at each other onstage, Nicky giving a big smile halfway through a song that just seems to be meant for YOU... None of it translates well when you're reading lists and dry, garbled reminisces on a forum. Reading about a gig online just misses so much of the actual experience. Nicky's stories about Richey on Friday are such a great example. There's no point me trying to write up the stories he told. It's just the same stuff we've heard a hundred times really. But the look on his face, his tone of voice, the way it cracks when he gets too emotional... That's what people were responding to on the night. That's what made it so special.

This made me laugh too! I was there and the new songs sounded great, they opened with NSAF, and played Revol and Elvis Impersonator. Plus that Acoustic version of Everlasting was really good, hearing the crowd sing along was quite a moment. I thought it was a really good gig.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely agree with people that the setlists can become a little stale and they could shake them up a lot more over the course of a tour, and I'd love to see some rarer album tracks crop up from time to time. It's just that when I'm actually there, the specifics of the setlist or how many times I've heard these songs are so far from my mind. It's not what makes the gigs worthwhile.
