My ranking of the albums has finally changed. I've spent the last week listening to all the studio albums again and can honestly say that this is where they now stand:

1. The Holy Bible
2. Journal For Plague Lovers
3. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
4. Generation Terrorists
5. Everything Must Go
6. Gold Against The Soul
7. Lifeblood
8. Postcards From A Young Man
9. Send Away The Tigers
10. Know Your Enemy

With that being said, there are tracks on all of them that I like. And the only album that I genuinely hate (as an album) is KYE. Doesn't work on any level.

This doesn't mean I hate SATT, it's just that the album is too short and doesn't seem to have a 'feel' to it.
But there some good songs on it, I love 'Imperial Bodybags' and dare I say it 'Underdogs'!

Every time I listen to one of their albums I think THIS 2nd place (after THB obviously). No THIS is 2nd place. It's difficult. Except SATT and GATS. They'll never be second place.

I think, in my gut (which I appreciate is an odd place to have a brain), this is the order.

1. The Holy Bible
2. Journal for Plague Lovers
3. Everything Must Go
4. Lifeblood
5. Know Your Enemy (with a few songs removed)
6. This is My Truth Tell Me Yours (with a few songs switched for bsides)
7. Generation Terrorists
8. Gold Against the Soul
9. Postcards From a Young Man
10. Send Away the Tigers

I have a top 5 that doesn't really change:

1. Journal For Plague Lovers
2. The Holy Bible
3. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
4. Everything Must Go
5. Lifeblood

Then there are 4 that constantly change position:

6. Generation Terrorists
7. Gold Against the Soul
8. Send Away the Tigers
9. Postcards From a Young Man

10. Know Your Enemy - I don't think this will ever change, somehow! I still like it but it's the one I like the least by far.

This is so difficult, because for me they are all great albums, even my bottom two. But here is my current rankings presented in the form of a ten-team Premier League table:

Champions League:
1. Everything Must Go
2. The Holy Bible
-------------------
European League:
3. Lifeblood
-------------------
Mid-Table:
4. Journal For Plague Lovers (controversially missing out on Europe by a questionable refereeing decision in the final game of the season)
5. This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours
6. Postcards From a Young Man
7. Gold Against the Soul (above SATT on Goal Difference)
8. Send Away the Tigers
-------------------
Relegation fight:
9. Know Your Enemy
10. Generation Terrorists

I think KYE and GT have ended up bottom because of a)lower production values and b)a vaguer coherence as complete albums, as an art-form. But I still love both albums and on another day this list would change a lot, the bottom 4 for sure.

Difficult to put them in order, considering the last two are the only ones I've any real objection to, and I still like Postcards a hell of a lot.

My favourite Manics album is always THB, but my order of preference for the rest varies with mood.

oooh interesting. I can see why 1,2,4 & 5 would be together but you've put KYE in the middle of them. Unexpected.
