I actually thought his voice was really shot (over a gig's length anyway), but Brixton made me feel that it was better than what I thought and I was pretty impressed. Unfortunately it's never going to be how it was, but then that's just life

Aye, maybe the performances I've seen his been ill/tired/under the weather/ not arsed... and to be fair he was ill before christmas I seem to recall?

Musically he needs to be inspired...

It's all forced. The songs are formulaic and uninspiring, but then so are the majority of lyrics provided by Nicky.

On the last album there are a few euphoric moments, but not enough. There's no subtelty. Nothing epic. Nothing fresh.

Compare recent "Last Christmas" performance to the TFI one. TFI was magical, the recent performance was a bit embarrassing.
I disagree with pretty much everything you've said there. Don't get me wrong, I can also have moments of dissapointment in certain manics songs and I don't have a "everything the manics have ever done is better than anyone else" mentality but to say James has lost his range or isn't inspired is pure rubbish (Yeah, you're projecting an opinion which your entitled too but still...). I think James has sounded more vitalised musically and vocally strong in the last 4 years than ever before.

TGW was fantastic. Everything since has been disappointing.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion but I don't seriously believe that you truly believe that since 2006 everything the Manics have done has been a dissapointment? surely you must like at least 5 songs from that prolific output?

Disappointing in that there are only probably 10 songs from that time that I really like. All the others are a bit... whatever.

Anyway. Manics are still my favourite band, nothing comes close... they're just a bit of a let down for me recently.

Maybe the next album will be better.

I wouldn't mind a proper e-commerce feature for the Manics site that allows international fans to purchase downloads of the singles and B-sides.
