I agree. SATT and PFAYM had very good lyrics overall but I physically couldn't cope with 70 songs of verse/chorus/verse/solo/chorus/chorus again. I found the repetition of lines on SATT & PFAYM overkill at times.

I'd love them to explore that dark post-rocky sound that they showed on songs like The Vorticists. Just make an album of 10 lovely pop songs made up of weird sounds, meandering between heavy, light and acoustic. That would be awesome.

I think this whole hoo-haa has just been a simple misinterpretation. I think Nicky's comment was lost in translation.

What he really meant to say was "Seventeen Songs of Hatred and Failure".

Even The Wire's not egomanical to hoist 70 bloody "songs" on us in one sitting.

...Is he?? If so this weekend I will be mostly shaving off my ears.

I agree, the Vorticists is something I've never heard from the Manics before and I hope they try and explore more of that particular style.

Anyway, in relation to the actual topic at hand, I'm kinda starting to get my hopes up about this. The recent b-sides and outtakes hint at a more 'experimental' (for them; basically, outside the usual Manics box) route with all the heavy use of electronic elements and such, Nicky's songwriting pen has genuinely blossomed recently and all the talk about being self-indulgent and doing something they've yearned to do for a while sounds very good to me. I know KYE is not a popular album in the fandom but I'd adore an album in a similar vein - something that's not afraid to dabble in unknown waters and try hands at anything that comes to mind. I liked PFAYM and JFPL but I would really find it lovely if they could bring out that wilder side of theirs to the table again, the one not afraid to try different things: it's that side of theirs that's all over their golden 98-05 period (and even earlier!) and return to that mindset would be ace. Hell, maybe even go beyond three and a half minutes .

I doubt it's going to be a double album though, I can't see this band going so far. 70 songs is downright absurd and I'm fairly convinced it was just a random number he pulled from his head as a way of explaining they're aiming for something colossal in scale, rather than an exact number of songs they're working on. But who knows, they might surprise.

And I really, really hope it would never come to this. Stage-releases annoy the hell out of me. Just release the git at once.

I just pray they ditch Eringa, of late he's just sucked the dynamics out of songs, everything sounds so flat.

They'd never be able to release ten songs a month for seven months. No casual fans would be bothered with that. Such an oversayuration of the manics on the Market. Apart from possibly the first couple, It wouldn't sell enough for a record company to finance that.

It wasn't a random number, it came from him wanting to beat http://www.amazon.co.uk/69-Love-Song...8646374&sr=8-1 by one song.

Which in itself makes it a shit idea, almost like releasing a parody record.

I just want them to make the immense rock album they are capable of. None of this pandering to the charts bollocks.

I don't want Nicky to sing ever again. He makes the noise that I imagine a cabbage would make when pulled from the ground, if vegetables could talk.

Well if the album's title says there's gonna be 70 songs...that's not even a double album, that's creeping into triple album territory!

Maybe throw some covers in? Trumpet instrumentals from Sean? I don't know. And I wouldn't mind Nicky singing some stuff, but then again, I have weird tastes heh.

Just no to KYE Mark2...They need to not try to be eclectic and just do what they want. If they want success, don't try and push people away...and don't try for commerical success like they did with Postcards. Just do what comes naturally....stuff like TBTGOG and bsides and SATT bsides were brilliant. The Manics don't need to go out and reinvent the wheel...they aren't radiohead, they just need to produce a good solid Manics album, with something a bit new, some great lyrics and some good songs.
