I strongly dispute the 'great singer' thing. I think what he said the AIDs thing just to shock, without thinking actually thinking about what he was saying and how it might come across. There are many occasions when Nicky has opened his gob first and thought later. He seems to at least try to hold back these days though.

This is truth. I understand some people like a rough sounding voice (like I like Joe Strummer's voice), but from a technical point of view Nicky is just not a good singer. His tuning has got a little better, but the actual tone is just awful and droning. The only times I've enjoyed his voice are when it's had a lot of heavy production to make it sound good (My Little Empire), or when the song itself kind of suited the crapness, and was more talking than actually singing (Wattsville Blues). I couldn't listen to a whole album of him singing, which is why I haven't.

Can't say I'm with you on the "great singer" point, but I'm definitely with you about him being a great bassist. I play bass too, and as a bassist, I sometimes get stuck for inspiration. Just can't think of what to play to compliment what the guitarist is doing. No clue at all. And then I just think, "What would Nicky Wire do?", and then it all becomes clear to me: Root note. Root note. Root note.

Man's a genius.

Is there actually a studio recorded version with the swearing anyway though? I've never heard one. I've just heard it live.

As far as I know there was never a recorded version (album/single) with the swearing in it.
