That's why I voted for 1985 instead, if they wanted it to chart well it would need to be on the radio/TV and a radio edit of Yes seems sacrilegious. 1985 really should have been a single, it would have charted well. The fact that they didn't release it completely baffles me.

I voted for 1985 for that reason and also because all the other album had at least one great single.TLORN is not a terrible song but 1985 would have been a better choice for a single.

Surely, in terms of playing album tracks live as well as general affection from both band and fans, Enola/Alone would be ahead of Further Away?

1985 seems to encompass all that Nicky Wire wants to in lyrics - political and social commentary in a broad, historical sense yet inherently personal. quite a difficult think to pull off in a 3 minute song but there's the personification of it.
had it been a single and charted well (and it would have, with nostalgia / curious types buying it for the name alone; c.f. James Blunt's 1973), can you imagine just how "better" the lyrics for the albums which followed would have been? "well, 1985 sold really well, let's do more of that". i'd really like to think that the band wanted it and the label refused, but then again the lack of love shown for the album in general and this song in particular (i.e. when did they last do it live?) suggests otherwise.

i am really suprised that no one has gone for patrick bateman. i know why. i love that song as it's so different for them. it could have been a potential career changer as many people have already said. and it would have been so easy for them to go down that route.

Did'nt Nicky say in one of Lindz Delirum's interviews that Live to Fall Asleep would have been the 3rd single if there had been one.

i was impressed with Patrick Bateman when i first heard it and for a good while after; a few years later and it seldom if ever gets played - indeed skipped when i have an mp3 disc in the car or the iTwat on in the bedroom.
yes, those lyrics certainly would have been a career changer for them, as obscurity after being dumped by Sony after the fury of the tabloids at it would have been somewhat different from the career they had. i was pissed when it wasn't included on LT, now in retrospect i'm rather glad it's not on it.

Possibly. I think I remember reading he said that 1985 should have been the 1st single and I Live To Fall Asleep should have been the 2nd.

ha . i didn't vote for it though. i think it had it's time and place and that's where it belongs. i do get a guilty kick out of it sometimes.

they were doing it at the festivals that year. would've been a good fourth choice from SATT. although it should have been the second great depression.

I voted Judge Yr'self because I have a massive soft spot for it and because it never really had a 'home' - it wouldn't have fit well on any of the GATS-THB-EMG era albums back then, and it deserved better than being the token new track on a b-sides disc in the 00s.
Yes is my second-favourite Manics song and I would love more people to hear it, but I would hate a censored version of it so much. 1985 is bland as hell (sorry starstruck). Patrick Bateman is a dreadful, overlong piece of self-indulgence. can't remember who said Enola/Alone, but that would've been a close contender for my vote had it been on the poll - it's a great song.
