In line with his humdrum domestic technophobic lyrical standards, I'm guessing VHS. Probably a slightly chewed Maxell 180 of snooker.

Ever since the title was first mentioned I've had the image if a camera film in my head. Probably because of being a photographer, but it instils a notion of capturing a moment in time as a static image, wanting to revisit so because the film hasn't been developed and you can't go back there, you rewind the film to start again, this creating a double exposure. Two images on a time line, two or more stories. That's my personal view anyway

The thing is, the lyric talks of rewinding films and turning back the pages of books... I feel it's once again a clear nod to going back to the start. When you're rewinding a camera film you're about to send it off to the chemists to get developed, which is kind of moving forward or even moving on, which could have had implications for the future of the band... but the turning back of the book's pages implies the opposite (to fit with the idea of rewinding a camera roll the lyric would have to be "close the book"), you're hoping to start it again, even "unlearning what has been learnt", and rewinding a movie style film fits with that.
What can I say, it's a quiet morning

Interesting thoughts in the last two posts. With Wire favouring Polaroids over 'proper' cameras I automatically thought the 'film' was a VHS/Super 8/whatever else kind of film, but now... I don't know, I like these new ideas.

Re-ee-wind, when the crowd say bo selecta.
It's the film that forms on a bowl of custard, making it even more vile.

Ilford XP2 Super 400 Black & White (24 exp). That's what it sounds like from listening the song, anyway.
